My new 4 string.

I give a lot of credit to the people who play these. It's extremely hard at first...

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Gotta love orchestra instruments. I played viola for a few years when I was younger and I recently took up the cello. Good to see a fellow musician branching out! Violins sound fantastic once you know how to play them!

Vacant will become famous soon enough
I've been considering violin myself...

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
Olde time is still a-flying
And the same flower that smiles today
Tommorow will be dying...

GuitarGod1036 is on a distinguished road
Good luck....seriously. About 12 years or so ago, I had gotten a violin for Christmas and ended up taking lessons from a lady who plays with the New Orleans Symphony. She was awesome. I, on the other hand, sucked balls. From my experience, violin is probably the most difficult stringed instrument to manage, much less master.

If you want to learn in a guitar mind-to-violin mind perspective, check out books about mandolin for learning the notes and fingerings and such. Mandolins are strung the same way (GDAE) and the finger spacings are about the same. Same way as if you play guitar or bass, you'll be surprised how naturally easy it is to play cello.

Then there comes the right hand. BOWING IS A FUCKING ART FORM. Holy cow, you need to remember like seven different things at once just to bow correctly. So, good luck there, too.

One thing that pops into mind since I had a bunch of lessons was that the first day my teacher put position markers on the neck. This was supposed to help, as you would expect, but I found that from years of guitar playing it was better to not have them and just kind of used my guitar instincts to feel where the notes are. Dude, violin is a beautiful pain in the ass. Enjoy.
