![]() | I want some videos*exercises to learn shredding! Here´s the deal. I woke up this morning, grabbed my guitar, and decided I would try soloing. I don´t know how it came, but I started doing some really fast shit that sounded like shredding, but pointless stuff, without any scales or anything. I now know that I can play fast stuff but I want to learn the basics! Do you guys have some tips or exercises to me? |

You could buy a scales and modes book at your local music shop, or look around for something online. But I think learning the major scale modes is a good first step. ![]() As for note sequencing for licks and stuff, I'd check out any instructional material by Rusty Cooley (his Basic Training DVD would be great for this. You can get it at chopsfromhell.com) and Paul Gilbert. RIP MIKE |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Start by listening to "Comfortably Numb" on repeat for a couple days. Once you realize how much tasteful melodic playing kicks ass, then and only then start thinking about shred. Also, Rusty Cooley's CFH demo vids for inspiration, then maybe Petrucci's Rock Dicipline. That said, I'd start with a book - Troy Stetina's "Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar." "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'd say just learn your scales, chords and basic theory all over the neck before you worry about how fast you can play them (try 'The Complete Guitarist' by Richard Chapman). Then get 'Intense Rock 1 and 2' by Paul Gilbert, 'Speed Mechanics...' by Troy Stetina, and 'Rock Discipline'. After that, maybe try the Rusty Cooley stuff. All the time you're working at this, be sure to work your phrasing and ability to play over chord changes. 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!' ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think "Wild Stringdom" is as good as Rock Discipline, and it's cheaper ![]() ...diagonally parked in a parallel universe... Please visit freerice.com if you get bored online |
