Any Mandolin Players here?

I want a mando real bad and I was wondering if anyone here plays, has stories of success, or anything else helpful. I am also open to begginer mandolin suggestions, like $50-180 range. I am thinking of getting an electric acoustic one so I can plug it in if I ever play live of record with it, but am afriad that the pickup might change the tone negativly. Thanks all.

I do. Although I left my mandolin in the US. Mine is an electric acoustic. I used to plug it in and sarcastically play it with distortion and wah.

One thing to keep in mind is that the frets are REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY small.

I've got one, it's probably the reason why I started tuning in 5ths on other instruments also.

Cheap mandolins is not to prefer, what you should do is to try and find one at a pawnshop, that's probably the cheapest alternative.

I actually have a fender mandolin ($200-250), plays nice, but its the only mandolin that I've played

The fender mandolins are pretty good, the fender mandola/bouzuki is a great instrument.

yeah I like the f style, but they cost more and I'm cheap

The difference between F-style and A-style is mostly in the looks - not too much effect on tone. As for a beginner mando, definitely find a used one. As a guitar player, you'll be able to make a good judgment about the general condition of the instrument, and you should be able to play some chords to get an idea about the tone - just flip your normal guitar chords upside down
