sorry to hijack the thread...but has anyone read article in Classic Rock magazine about the making of Chinese Democracy? More specifically the Buckethead section?

And that guitar is sexy.

You know Colma is a chill mostly acoustic album, with little in the way of pyrotechnics, right?

What people don't seem to realise about Buckethead is that for every six or seven albums of atonal weirdness he releases, there's a tasteful, melodic album that could easily hang with the best offerings of guys like Eric Johnson or Satch, although I don't hold it against anyone for not having the patience to find out, heh.

Uses the killswitch and whammy to great effect. He hardly ever breaks out the crazy chops though.
The whole point of having crazy chops is to be able to play better, more melodic stuff so you are never ever held back by what your hands can't do. This is a great tune, but I prefer his weirder stuff actually.. Spokes for the Wheels of Torment, for instance

This is the thing that got me as well. I bought Colma because I thought the whitewash on it would be something like this one...which it is not.

But I was rewarded with an amazing album...so I can't complain

A guitar buddy of mine sent me the Whitewash mp3, so I knew what I was getting into. I was vaguely familiar with Buckethead as a player before that, but had never heard that side of his playing. I think I listened to it on repeat for two or three hours that night, and had ordered it off amazon.com before the morning.

It's simply a fantastic album, though one that you really have to have already proved yourself as a guitarist, I feel, to have recorded. I think it says a lot about his maturity as a player.

I admire his technique on the other stuff, but really for me it's this disc, Population Override, and Electric Tears that made me a fan.
