ELECTRONICAAAAAAAAA.

Yo peeps.

I've been trying to listen to more electronica lately. I've been listening to metal for a few years now, and I kind of feel exhausted from the whole scene if that makes any sense.

And my band is trying to merge as many genres as we can while still maintaining a listenable sound, one of which is definitely electronic stuff, because I love it. But because I'm used to the typical rock/metal/whatever stuff, the electronic scene is completely new to me. There's SO much to listen to, so many different genres, it's a little overwhelming.

I've grasped a little bit of the trance, happy hardcore, house, eurotrance, etc. scene, and I love it, but I'm looking for some..different stuff.

Stuff likeeeee:
Hadouken!
MySpace.com - Hadouken! - Leeds/London, UK - Indie / Metal / Garage - www.myspace.com/hadoukenuk

That's the only band I think of right now, it's late. But really catchy, dancey, electronic stuff..anyone?

PS. Can anyone explain the craze for powerpop please? My other guitarist and vocalist listen to it a lot. It seems to be just like indie with keyboards really. I'm sure there are some catchy bands, but I just don't get it.

Tycho!

MySpace.com - Tycho - San Francisco, California - Ambient / Down-tempo / IDM - www.myspace.com/tycho

actually it's not too much like the stuff you're looking for but it's nice to shake things up a bit.

Maybe something more like Ratatat?
MySpace.com - RATATAT - BROOKLYN, New York - Rock / Electronica / Hip Hop - www.myspace.com/ratatatmusic

Squarepusher and Aphex Twin are seminal. As are Chicane, ATB etc. if you haven't already checked them out.

Browse through some of 'Warp Records' and 'Ninja Tune Records' artists...those labels probably have some of the most genre-pushing and innovative electronic artists on the planet signed to them.

Like metal, the electronic music genre is fucking huge, just listen to as much as possible. Some Drum 'n' Bass (not so much Pendulum) would also be good, Nu:Tone, Item.Code, Logistic etc. etc.
