Man some of you guys have way too much time on your hands to sit and nit pick everything these bands do. Calling the artwork nu-metal? Are you serious? Like Bound said, listen to it with an open mind and dont compare it to an album that came out 10 years ago.

You speak the truth. I look forward to this album, just hope its a tad bit better than Come Clarity. But as someone before has mentioned, Whoreacle for the win.

Vision is a jewel in the rough
I am listening to it right now. I like it, but it is the first CD I have heard from them...

This album is growing on me the more I hear it, which I expected. It's not as bad as I originally thought. Thanks for the pictures of the booklet, I've been able to pick out some lyrics I wanted to know.

Why the hell not? This album is no better than some of the crappy industry metalcore albums being put out these days, but that doesn't mean the situation should be judged in the same way. The difference is that In Flames have already proved that they have the potential to be better than this, by the now classic albums they've released in the past. They have the benefit of experience AND the raw talent. When a band has shown that they have the tools to put together something amazing, and instead release dreck, they deserve to be held accountable. Bands that haven't been around as long at least have the excuse of not having been able to yet explore their potential, and are still learning their craft. In Flames, on the other hand, have turned into the Gibson of melodic death metal. They are capable of so much more, but instead they choose to release garbage and expect people to eat it up based on their name and past history. Eventually, people will get wise.

No need to insult us fans that like the new album. It's not up to you or me to decide what a band can and can not do. If this is the direction In Flames music is going, then so be it. You think they need to be held accountable? for what? What they do and the music they make is their business, not yours and they don't have to answer to anyone about it. If you don't like the music they make then don't listen to it, simple as that.

Imo, if they were interested in only making money then they wouldn't have released the whole album on their myspace where they know people will rip it and pirate it. If they didn't care about the music they were making then I don't think they would have put forth the time and effort to release the studio diaries, which were quite enjoyable to watch.

In Flames doesn't owe you anything and I think it's immature to act otherwise. They've provided us with amazing music in a genre they helped pioneer for well over a decade and from their influence many great bands were spawned. They don't deserve the attitude from people like you, if anything you should be thanking them.

I doubt it was entirely their decision. The labels are beginning to realize that people will pirate music either way. This way, they can put a positive spin on it and generate some good PR.

I'm sure even Brittney Spears cares about what she releases on a fundamental level, but there's more to be had releasing radio-friendly stuff like what she actually puts out. Once again, this can also be attributed to label interference, but the band still makes the music.

I'll be the last person to deny that In Flames HAS released some wonderful, wonderful music, and their influence on this genre is undeniable. Colony in particular has a special place in my heart. However, as long as I continue to spend money on their albums, and I've spent money on 2 straight albums now that I don't think deserved it, I am owed something. Despite the mediocrity that pervaded STYE, I bought Come Clarity sound-unheard because I'd read that they'd gone back to their old ways and released an album of real metal, and I SO wanted it to be true, but low and behold, it made STYE look good by comparison. Chances are if they hadn't released this album online, I would have paid money for it too, because for God knows why, I still hold hope that they will make an album that will move me again. And despite the fact that this album leaves me cold again, I will probably still hold my hopes up for their next album after ASOP. I WANT them to be great again, which is part of the reason it's so frustrating to hear what they're doing now.

In Flames has been around for a long time and has a huge established fan base, they're not exactly the type of band to be swayed by a label for "sales." That'd work on a band trying to get out there, not one that's been around for 10 years.

Reroute To Remain was the first album that echoed of their changing sound (I enjoy R2R, and am thoroughly convinced that the band earned every fan they had to that point, but there's no question in my mind that you can hear the direction they started off in with that album), and it was also the first album that got them real recognition outside of the realm of underground metal. The melodies and harmonies become catchier and more accessible but less memorable, the music shifts to a more rhythm based approach, the vocal style switches from a growling to a screaming/vulnerable-singing approach which 'just happens' to be coming en vogue. It's not like In Flames is the only band to come to this fate, so I doubt its coincidence.

I'm listening to it now, and for those who claim they suck now, listen to Cloud Connected (what album? May be more recent than I think) then Alias (A sense of purpose) some aspects have changed, but the core is there.
