You gotta copy the link address and look at it like that. Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high, Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie, Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally. Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread Its branches like a Temple overhead. ~Charles Baudelaire http://www.myspace.com/impurity Brutal Skullfucking Death Metal |

Chris, if you plan on staining it, you're still going to have to get through the sealer. The "wood" you see there isn't even the wood, it's veneer. You can stain that, but you have to get to it first. Be REALLY REALLY careful how heavy you sand, because if you take off too much veneer in one little spot (like the edges or the front-side bevel "edge"), you'll have to do the whole guitar, and brother I PROMISE you that you will hate what you will be facing. Just a heads up from someone's who's stripped 4 RG's to the real wood in the past year. I suggest the Black and Decker Mouse for any sanding. It gives you the best control and you'll need the "finger" attachment to do the insides of the horns. When you start sanding, the dust will be "death white" in color (white with a hint of gray). Once you get to where the dust is tan, then you know how far to go. Also, you can tap the surface with a fingernail and tell what's wood and what's sealer....there's a very distinct difference. BTW, don't be in a hurry...it will take you a lot longer than you expect. Oh, and a tip on how to make your sandpaper last longer. When you sand the sealer, it will gunk up on the paper immediately. Have a piece of a rug or carpet handy to rub the sander on (while still on) and it'll clean off the gunk and make your sandpaper pieces last much much longer. This is especially good when you have to buy premade pieces (as those for the mouse sander). I will buy super-heavy sandpaper and velcro and make my own, but I don't think you need to use anything extreme.. Last edited by GuitarGod1036; 11-03-2004 at 10:08 PM.

X20 is usually a dual-humbucker model these days. Please don't put a pickguard on it. Pretty please. Not even a clear one. Why would Ibanez veneer the bodies on those low-end models? I thought the only ones that had veneer were low end models with figured "tops", or the JEM 7VWH, which has a basswood veneer over alder to stop the finish from sinking into the alder grain. |

Crap, now I need to look at the headstock when I get home and see wtf it actually is. (As you can tell, I play this guitar a ton!)I'll be a sanding madman tonight. Not sure if there's a way to tell from the side or so if it's veneer'ed or not (this is my first time at the dance), but I'll fire up some pics all the same. :: chrisquigley.com :: Sevenstring Registry :: Share Your Music :: Share Your Patches :: Sevenstring.org MySpace chmod +ax /bin/laden
