Another good point! I'm all for moshing, I do it myself when I feel like it. My band used to be metal - a kind of thrashy death metally black metally thing - until about a month ago... because I cut my hair... Our music hasn't changing at all. In fact, the new song I wrote after I cut my hair was the most technical song in the band so far and one of the most aggressive and dischordant. And then the other guitarist who has a buzz-cut introduced a 2 and a half minute long grindcore-brutal-deathmetal masterpiece and for cheese-sake, I based the lyrics on zombie movies.

But we're not metal anymore... because I cut my hair.

noones saying that your not metal with short hair, but the two do go together.

Also, technicality =/= metal. There is technical metal, but the two aren't exclusive. As many have said, for the most part technical players are playing their instruments, not music.

1. What? We appreciate musicians that branch out and try new things once in a while not to mention we're a rare breed so we'll naturally support our own. And I'm sorry, maybe you haven't noticed the banner across the top of the page saying "sevenstring.org". Hmmm... I wonder what that must mean?

3. Damn son, have you even heard any Vai, Satriani and (early) Malmsteen? They're all very technical players and yet write some seriously moving pieces of music. And what about Epitaph and Seven by Necrophagist? Have you listened to them perhaps? Sounds like pretty musical to me but hey what do I know...

Secondly: Why? Because most people are used to seeing most metal bands with long hair? My boys in Sevendust have cut and grown their hair multiple times, each on their own (and yes, altmetal is still metal ); I used to have short hair, now it's long, and I've been into metal since 1982 ( :geezer: ); hair is about comfort and personal style, same with clothes, body shape... it's yours, do what the fuck you want with it, and fuck anyone who says different!

Yes, yes, it's true that technicality does not automatically mean it's metal, in the same way that a shuffle beat doesn't automatically make it blues. On the other hand, this is a board full of wanker guitarists dedicated to outside-the-box wankery so it's no surprise that there is a great appreciation of those musicians who are technical. If this was Downtuned-Droptuned-Sixstring.org, then you might find technique less important, but...

There is as great appreciation here for soul and groove as there is for technique (case in point: BULB ). Good music is good music, technique or no, genre or no, image or no... and baby, it's all rock 'n' roll!
