...Each guitarist has an evil fat 40 year old blueswankler trying to get out, If you give in to temptation you'll be sitting next to a fender playing john lee hooker while trying to keep your combover in place.

You know, something tells me that's the reason he has to play a Vigier Marilyn or a BC Rich or a Xiphos or something. Otherwise when he got on stage people would expect him to start playing Boston's "More Than A Feeling" or something

By the way, how the fuck do you say Suicmez? Suh-wee-smez? The cedilla makes it a soft s sound, yeah?

i dont bother with subgenres often. they're pointless. i dont say "oh this band is hardcore", or "this is post-hardcore-screamo-nu-metal" or anything like that. there's few bands i know that i will put into subgenres. so dont argue the fucking point. if it's umberalla'd under "metal", then that's what it is to the public.

instead of whining about fans who need something to define their music by so that they can have an exclusive group, or what makes metal metal...

just throw on your favourite album and rock the fuck out

(2) You have once again dodged the question and started talking about how you do or do not like an artists music.

(3) If by Alt-Metal you mean bands like Faith No More then yes Alt-Metal is metal and to say that Alt-Metal isn't metal is like saying Rammstein and Fear Factory are not metal.

(4) You are clearly referring to KoRn here. The term "garbage" is subjective. I happen to think that KoRn has made some of the most original music in a long time and has approached the guitar as an instrument in ways that were never previously explored. I don't believe that they are the musical equivalents of jesus or anything but they were unique and experimental.

(5) Good for them.

EDIT: Actually I have an answer to every single one of your "questions":
BULB
1.usually thats fulfilled by 2 guitarists. Rhythm and lead. Im responded to your comments with further comments. It's called an argument.
2. I answered your incorrect statements.
3. "alt-metal" such as faith no more is more of the Alt rock type. Generally "alt-metal" is accepted as a subgenre of rock, not metal.
4. I guess it is subjective, but many people will agree, this was one of the worst trends to ever use the term "metal".

As for Bulb, meh. Went back to listen to his stuff, didn't care for it. Boring. I didn't know he was in Periphery. Someone sent me a link to them a few weeks back. I guess to each his own.

That "limit"/range is all in your head. Thats their personal preference. Some people can roll with a mere 6.

Agreed.

[quote=Thrashmanzac;950407][quote=Murder Soul;950062]

Unfortunately for you guys, the most famous 7 strings excluding Vai all just play detuned garbage. The whole Nu metal/alt metal thing.

Quote:

wow. you fucking suck man....
im not even gonna give you a long arse list of names of 7 players that are abso-posivly fucking great, becuase you simply don't deserve to know who they are. not with that attitude.
please fuck off.
Who cares what the hell they play? As long as the music is good.
Another reason I hate musician forums.

Dino, Korn, the whole nu metal thing, Meshuggah, etc are what comes to mind when I think 7's and 8's. It's amazing that those extra low strings prevent you from being about to play on every other string.

Unearth is metalcore, so I won' even comment on them. Jeff Loomis is ok, never cared for nevermore though. Never was a prog guy. I'm more of a Death/black (and the billion of subgenres of each) type of guy. As for Chris, he seems at least technically proficient. Don't know enough about him to make an accurate assessment, but I don't care much for megadeth, so.
I am surprised Dave let a 7 stringer in the band. But then again Dave talks shit about everything...

Makes no sense.

My opinion is, metal is metal, and it's retarded to like or dislike a band/player based on the equipment he uses.

No, it's not pointless. Doom metal is very different from thrash. To say they're the same is ridiculous. Metal isn't even a genre for the general public, so who cares what they think. Remember, these are the same idiots that think slipknot is death metal.

1. how is alt-metal rock.. if it has metal in the name?
2. you might not like periphery or bulb's music, but it is definitely not boring.
3. "the limit/range thing is all in your head" you're kidding right? it's right there, physically, an extra string on the guitar.
4. i was responding to the quote that started my first post in this thread.. didja read it?...
5. you think we dislike or like a band based on gear?
6. metal isnt even a genre for the general public? actually, it is. watched the news when dimebag was shot? columbine? honestly now.
7. they're pointless - if it's metal of some sort, it's metal. I never said that all metal is the same, i said that subgenres are pointless. maybe just to me and not the other millions of metalheads on the planet. i dont care what kind of metal it is: if it's good metal to me i will support the band, see shows, and buy CD's.

you CLEARLY did not do what i said to do at the end of my post.

Since when is Nevermore prog? Since when is Jeff Loomis just "ok"? I agree with a lot of what you have to say, even if you are very caustic in your delivery - but those two comments are pretty silly.

BTW, as much as I dislike metalcore, it still is metal. I'm sorry but that's reality. I'd say a band like Unearth has more metal elements than hardcore elements in it, it's just the hardcore elements are what turn me off of them (the breakdowns are really what kill me).

You really need to stop being so defensive of the word 'metal' and just enjoy the bands you wish without stressing over labels. Fuck labels who gives a shit, "metal is metal".

this thread turned into exactly what the OP was bitching about, oh dear, well my stance on it is... i dont care, someone might perceive something to be metal that i might not think classes as metal but fuck i dont care, i only really care about what music i like (metal or not) and im never one to enforce my musical ideologies on anyone else

the Who are metal right?
