Killswitch Engage are as metalcore as it gets if you break it down, but my fucking god they're amazing, and nobody can take it away from them.
Deathcore is just a scened-up version of death metal played by people who don't actually realise what death metal is. It has an extreme facade with an emo underlay. Crazy, but again, it's produced some good bands
Some good explanation in there.

Nightcrawler has a spectacular aura about
I cant wait for metalcore to die. I really dont think its anything more but a watered down clone of mid-90's scandinavian thrash/death ie. At the Gates/In Flames. Fuck those shitty clean choruses and boring breakdowns. As far as Dethcore goes...big fail right there as well.

I think the first Black Dahlia Murder is the only metalcore record i enjoy listening to.

Black Dahlia Murder have gone from being metalcore w/ hints of straight up death to being almost straight death, albeit not the greatest of DM bands, personally.

CaptainD00M is a jewel in the rough
As a general rule of thumb anything with 'CORE' in the genre name (other than Grind) is bad news.

Metalcore is NO exception.
I look forward to its demise.

I first noticed this stuff as "all that new crap that sounds the same on Fuse". I think it's the new glam and will be looked upon as an embarrassing fad later on. I think that it will serve as a gateway for many young kids to discover some real metal and they'll later wonder why they ever liked metalcore in the first place. Grindcore is the only "core" I like and I prefer to just call it grind. In my dictionary, core=gay. So metalcore, in my dictionary, is: to make metal gay.

Personally, I wouldn't call them metalcore, but I can totally understand why they're lumped in with all the other metalcore bands; ironic, because they actually have stronger ties to hardcore than most of the other "metalcore" bands. Mastodon have even less resemblance to the "metalcore" sound, but again, it's a meaningless word, really, and I can see why it applies to them.

As for grindcore, DEP have nothing to do with it, nor do the bajillion deathcore bands. There is definitely a more modern approach to grindcore that crosses over into those scenes (Pig Destroyer, Nasum, Cattle Decapitation etc) and, surprisingly enough, some of it doesn't suck, which I can't say about pretty much any other modern take on an established genre, heh.

Metalcore is like any other genre, you have to sieve through the shit to find the goods bands.

yeh most metalcore sucks but there is some really well thought out metalcore too.
