The reason we don't have one is because no matter how well it's done and how popular it is, there's still gonna be 0437596430 new threads every week asking "what tuning does (insert band here) use?" or "reccommend me some songs in (tuning here)", people just don't seem to pay attention to stickied threads, or bother to search for answers to their questions. I'm not saying I wouldn't like one, just that it probably won't work.

This is not a good idea. Even if it was a sticky, there'd be like sixty-kajillion bands on the list and there'd always be bands that aren't on the list.

6-string E standard:
Metallica
Megadeth
Iron Maiden
Bad Religion
X Japan
Forbidden
Bauhaus
Exodus
Faith No More
Diamond Head
At The Drive-In
Dead Can Dance
The Ataris
Beastie Boys
Blink 182
The Aufixion
The Eternal Dark Nightmares
Eric Clapton
BB King

And then there'd be bands that play in like 10 different tunings that would be listed in each column.

6-string E standard:
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones

Open G:
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones

Open D:
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones

AND ON AND ON FOREVER AND EVER AMEN!!!

I completely understand your point. I just thought it would be a good idea if well executed. But, as you said, itīs very hard to make a good thread like this because of countless tunings and the multiple-tuning-based bands, etc.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, my idea was to exclude E tuning, because we would have to count almost every band on earth. My initial idea was a metal thread and a guide to alternate tunings, because, I guess all of us know pretty much when a band is tuned to E and we donīt need advice on this.

Probably not worth the effort, IMO, and as Naren points out it's rare for a band to play in JUST one tuning.

It's easier to just post a thread if you have a question about how a particular track is tuned.

"...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."
