A five-minute interview Finland's Sub TV conducted with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine on February 4, 2008 prior to the band's Helsinki concert can be viewed below.

During the interview Mustaine was asked for his opinion on "heavy metal" becoming "mainstream" again after being "gone" for 10 years in the Nineties. "Certainly, I appreciate it, because being in a metal band that's becoming mainstream again is gonna have certain benefits for us," he replied. "But I don't even know if we fit in the metal category anymore, because I heard we were moved from the 'metal' category to the 'classic rock' category in the Grammys. I was like, 'What?' I mean, you look at who they nominated for the Grammys this year — one band on there has only sold 10,000 records [referring to KING DIAMOND — Ed.], and I don't understand how we didn't get nominated. It's disappointing and it makes you… When you look at the facts, you just get so much disdain for that, because you know that it's a political thing and that somebody somewhere has bitterness towards me or towards my band. There's just no way that a band that's as successful as we are, with a brand new record that entered in the Top 10 in the Billboard charts, wouldn't get nominated for a Grammy when another band's in there that, like I said, has only sold 10,000 records. But you know what?! It's OK, because I've been nominated for seven Grammys and never won, so, frankly, to me, it's an elusive thing — it doesn't really mean anything to me."

I have to agree with him in some aspects.

I mean they nominated Slayer? wtf.. that record came out 2 fuckin years ago. I mean, get with thetimes people!!!!

He of all people should realize that if its about the music, then sales numbers shouldnt matter though.
I realize its a political thing (there's so many great 2007 metal albums, and NONE of them were nominated). However, i think Dave's trying to make himself so important "Oh, they're snubbing ME. Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH. I invented thrash metal, the spider chord and i have my own coffee brand. They just hate me".

I have to agree with him to some extent. I mean, Slayer has about the same noteriety as Megadeth does these days (which isn't that much, but it's enough). So I think Dave deserves a grammy. As for King Diamond only selling 10,000 records... KD is a legend, Dave has not reached that status just yet, so I feel KD earned a nomination.

Grant it I dont know how sales did... but they really need to let slayer go with the grammy's man. Every time the grammy's come around BAM slayer, slayer slayer. (could be wrong because I dont follow the grammy's much at all... just constantly hear their name when grammys come around).

however I'll have to agree with you there... but classic rock? At first he sounded pretty bitter but he usually manages to redeem himself afterward. I would be slightly annoyed at the principal, screw the title.. although it is a nice honor to have imo

This is the same group that gave the first ever metal grammy to Jethro Tull. Why should anyone in metal even care what they think?

Dave's just pissed that he didn't win the grammy the one year he was nominated and Metallica wasn't.
