Man, my sweeps suck ass. I try, but just haven't been able to get them down like this dude, Muhammed, Sanders, and others I have heard. I dunno what the dealio is. I can shred pretty damn fast otherwise.

I shouldn't make it sound like I've put a lot of time into my sweeping. Perhaps a total of an hour and a half to three hours, but it seemed like a lot longer. Tapping and alternate picking are cool, but I hate not having all the techniques available to me. I guess I need to buckle down and practice. I've never been one of those guys who practices for hours and hours every day; I've always been the type to pick of the guitar and play when I feel like it, even if it's only for a few minutes, and there have been many times in my life where I've gone without playing for days, weeks, or months. I know I could be superb if I put the time into it, but I've been a computer junky for nearly 16 years now and it really fucks up all my creative endevours, be they music, writing, reading or drawing. Damn computers!

Yeah, Chris hangs out at the Petrucci forum allot. Kids really amazing and can jam incredibly well.

I know what you mean, Kane. I've met so many unbelieveably talented guitarists that you will never hear of....sadly. Why? Because instead of getting out there and playing with others, they spent 12 hours a day for years on end learning every mode, scale & technique known to man. I call these people "bedroom musicians." Flawless playing at insane speeds, but they never do anything with it. Kudos to those who have the best of both worlds though.
I still practice, but only when I want to. After all these years, I know I'm good at what I do within the style of music I've chosen. I still wish I learned (or had the time to learn) other things, but adult-dom eventually kicked in & now I have other shit to do now. The moral of the story.... Sometimes it's just best to get out there and PLAY! |
