Coal Chamber
Just picked up dark days...I have no idea why this band gets so much shit. This CD is just balls to the wall slow paced metal, its hilarious, and I love it.
Dez looks hysterical and its ....ing awesome ![]() The bassist is pretty hot, too! |

He never once tuned to low G. Coal Chamber always tuned to B with occasional drop A. I used to like those guys when I was young, but now...it's pretty boring. Meegs has even admitted himself he doesn't really know how to play guitar, and it shows.

The second video has clips from the movie, undead, it's a low budget Australian zombie movie. It's from 2003 and worth checking out.

Whenever I see this band mentioned I always think of this one review I read for the first Mudvayne album that read something like: "Oh god, NO. Come back, Coal Chamber. All is is forgiven. 0/10"

And yeah, he's said he's not great at guitar, but at the same time I'd say that helped his creativity. He said his tuning and string guage choices were based on just messing around and not really knowing what he was doing. I think musicians could stand to ignore everything they've learned once in a while, and approach the guitar in a completely creative way (i.e. not thinking about technique). And nothing says heavy like a low, slow, grooving, 2 or 3 note/chord riff. Sometimes simple is better. |

My favorite song so far is 'Beckoned'. Can't find it on youtube, its pretty damn heavy though.

They had their awesome moments... and their really, really sucky ones.
The best thing Meegs ever did was a signature BC Rich that Zim used to own... ....EN AWESOME.

I always liked Coal Chamber, they were super-simple and straightforward, but for in-car tunage or something it was fine. Big guitar sound too. The tone on Chamber Music was ....ing weird though, never heard anything like it!

Man, i tried listening to coal chamber's first album a while back to see if it really was as bad as I remembered it, and it actually came out with me realising that it was worse than I remembered... |

I love the tone on that album. The intro to El Cu Cuy, when everything kicks in, is absolutely crushing

I admit that I like Coal Chamber and Dark Days ....in rocks.
I mean, it´s simple, waaaaaaaay simple, but it´s just straight to the point, it rocks, the tone is mean, I really enjoy it. I do prefer devildriver but I listen to Coal Chamber ocasionally.

Man, i think i liked this band for a week when i was 16...thats almost 10 years go. They're oh so ....in horrible! guitar innovation? dont think so. Wes Borland maybe, these guys - no way.
ps. mudvayne are even worse. why is nu-metal being brought up again? it better not come back, or i`m strapping tnt to random critters |

Who said they were guitar innovators? Just because it isn't über tech metal doesn't mean they weren't a good band. I really liked Coal Chamber, still listen to it, and enjoy some of the works they did.
As for the Mudvayne hate, you can piss right off. Any band that incorporates bass tapping into a song is in my good books, but they were hardly unskilled at their instruments. I'm putting them in the Necrophagist/Quo Vadis realm of tech, but Mudvayne weren't too shabby, either.

* Someone mentioned something about them being original guitar innovators earlier in the thread
I never said you had to be tech to be good, i`m not for that opinion at all, as a matter of fact i kind of hate most of that technical wankery people call music. Mudvayne isnt my cup of tea, mind you there were decent live, when I had to sit though them. No make up these day definately helps. |

Coal Chamber is what I call "Dumb Metal"
Why is that? It´s simple, it´s straight to the point, just good stuff to jam to and not think too much. Hatebreed is just like that for me and a lot of NYHC too, just good fun to jump to! And I love it!
