That would kind of explain why I've been staying out of this thread because I couldn't figure out what everyone disliked about that guitar sound. Of course, I also realize that my taste in tone differs quite a bit from most of yours, so I just assumed it was a taste thing.

Anyway, welcome, Neil!

Thanks a lot. I mixed UITE. As you know it was a live album, recorded in Japan, but sadly I wasn't there for that part.

It's possible I suppose. I mean, all the other Nevermore stuff before that has already been remastered, so in time I expect CM will get to DNB.

It's really only a volume thing. The HDCD process, which I think is really fantastic if you've got an HDCD-equipped player, does add gain to the output of the CD, but the actual CD isn't distorted. The level on there distorts the analogue outputs of some older players, and what you end up hearing is sort of an intermodulation distortion-sounding effect. As I mentioned, I've heard it since, on several older players, but it doesn't exhibit that on my studio/home systems, iPod, etc.

When played on an HDCD player, for example, it sounds fine.

Either way, it's a shame it happened. The fact that I didn't hear anything like that on my ref, on my system, meant that it slipped through the cracks and got approved. Bummer.

On that note, aren't you working with Nevermore again?

Jeff
All being well, I'm going to be working on Jeff's solo album soon.

I think Andy does great work.

Welcome. Now that you've joined the dark side and picked up a 7 string, you'll find this to be one of the best resources available for ERG players in general.
Thanks for the invite Mike!

I'm looking forward to getting my 7 string. After that I'm going to try an 8 string (big Meshuggah fanboy here of course) if I can find one.

Being left handed can be a problem at times.

Oh, fucking cool, didn't know you were working on that actually.

Stick around, we need more recording nerds...

(Yes, Drew, that should include you soon. Grr...)

Haha, you can join the lefty musketeers here and there's a few guys making left handed 8-strings so it's not all doom and gloom.
