Fault of the Flesh ftw, always enjoyed that album, thought it sounded very dark but didn't pick up on the guitars *shrug*.

Demeyes will become famous soon enough
I never really noticed the palm mute thing until this thread but I can hear what your talking about. I don't mind too much, overall the album sounds fine to me. Great atmosphere running through it that suits the album.
About the tuning, I'm fairly sure Jeff has said in interviews that he only started with 7 strings on Dead Heart?

jaredowty is a jewel in the rough
You can't even compare the DNB production to DHIADW or TGE. Hell, even POE has better production, and it came out beforehand.

You're right, DNB sounds better

I don't know, maybe I'm just the only one that doesn't dig the tone of the last few albums. It's not bad by any means, its just... too compressed maybe? I dunno, something sounds off with it...

You can hear all the instruments, it isn't boomy, and everything has its place. A well-used compressor or two would have made DNB much more professional sounding and kept the bass much more controlled.

(JBroll tries not to start ranting about how most people who complain on music forums about things sounding 'too compressed' couldn't mix their way out of a bowl of noodles...)

You are probably right, though that doesn't change the fact that the guitars sound very mediocre. Dreaming Neon Black has this quality to it's production that gave Nevermore their own sound back then. Dead Heart was a lot better then both Enemies and TGE, but I still prefer the Neil Kernon era as far as production and tones go

Yeah, you're the first person I've ever seen who has ever called the Nevermore guitars 'mediocre'... and you have to remember that on top of all the other changes made Nevermore went from sixes to sevens between the two albums, so (1) Sneap was working with an already different sound and (2) if DNB was a little loose in the lows there's no telling what would have happened with the sevens.

I really like a lot of NK's work and just about everything Nevermore has done, but I can't say I wouldn't like to hear someone else redo DNB. Now, POE on the other hand...

Its true that the low Bb probably wouldn't have sounded too great with the NK type production for Nevermore. In this case I think it should be a question of preference rather than quality (we already know which I prefer ).

+1 to POE though, that album sounds massive
