All "downpicked" sounds *different* and has a different *feel*. There are things that will never sound right alt picked.

Dave has ALWAYS been an alternate picker. What makes him impressive is the other hand. I only wish I could spider pick.

thats funny... kerry king said that slipknot was one of the only band that has come along to put out the same amount of aggression as slayer does. but i guess the chromatic scale kinda gets to ya after 20+ years

and agreeing with eleven59... i much rather see a band play a good tight song versus just some guy wank off on his guitar.

and im glad someone else noticed how korn didnt use chords very much since untouchables but TALITM was worse.

who looks at the fretboard?!

some people once told me i sounded (vocally) like dave mustaine.

i was offended, and had to tell them off! what a bunch of jerks, to compare me to him. i mean, really?! come on, that guy may not have the greatest voice in the world, but he can sing. my voice sounds like a cat and a frog beating each other to death with an out-of-tune violin in a blender.

actually, if i could throw a little gravel in the mix and tune the violin, i might be onto something. heh, no way.

I was just watching a bunch of Megadeth videos yesterday and Dave is an alternate picking madman. What kinda threw me was that, on some songs, he was playing lead AND singing at the same time. Sure, the lead wasn't anything super complicated or anything, but it still rocked the casbah.

You should hear the Alive in Athens version, I swear Schaffer is a robot from the future sent to make all our picking hands feel inadequate.

I can just about get the verse riff, but that first intro riff is murder.

No fucking doubt. I can get it at just about 120+ BPM, but the intro tempo seems somewhere more like.. I dunno.. 150 =/-? Fucking insane with the little triplet thing. Gah! I try it at speed= mush

I have an MP3 of the song where they play live. Just whoa. I know exactly what you mean, Toshiro. A damn speed picking robot! Kickass song, though.
