That's because metal is a serious subculture in Japan. In fact, you're hard pressed to find metal records anywhere outside of Tokyo. But since Tokyo is the biggest city in the world, I actually found a record store that sold nothing BUT metal. It was pretty cool. They were playing a Slayer record when I first went in and when I left, they had just started the new Nevermore record. And I met a Japanese metalhead in a record store near Akihabara about 5 months ago. In fact, over 90% of Japanese metal bands are in Tokyo.... Which means I can't really start a band until I move there. But I'll probably be there in 2-4 months (hopefully sooner).

It's big enough in Tokyo (and maybe Osaka) that you can get sold out shows when the bands come, but not NEARLY big enough to get played on the radio.

If I remember my Japanese geography correctly, Machida is a little southwest of Tokyo (in Kanagawa prefecture). I've never been to Machida. I lived in Kawagoe, Saitama, which is 45 minutes north of Tokyo, for 1 year. For the last 6-7 months, I've lived in Choshi, Chiba, which is 3 hours east of Tokyo (meaning nowadays I never go to Tokyo). I've never lived west of Tokyo (where Machida is), although I have been to Kamakura, Yokohama, and many of the other cities in the near southwest vicinity of Tokyo.

I'll probably be moving to Ikebukuro in Northern Tokyo.

Ohhh BTW Im always bugging my keyboard player about Dragon Force and telling him Dream Theater kicks their ass, so I printed this because it is way too ironic. LMAO, theres nothing wrong with Dragon Force, I just tell him Power Metal, Black Metal, and basically anything that isn't progressive sucks to piss him off. I get it too. hhehe

You can't even compare Dream Theater and Dragon Force. They are two completely different kinds of bands. Besides, it's not like they're competing or anything... Besides, I can think of a thousand bands I like better than Dream Theater or Dragon Force (although I really like both).
