Trepan is a jewel in the rough
Avenged Sevenfold

So I had been looking at some new guitar magazines I bought and they're all going on about Avenged Sevenfold. I'd never heard of them. I read the interview and they really talk about how great they think they are, and say things like how they have their own sound and all of this.

Someone at work was sharing one of their songs on iTunes so I had a listen. They sound like a bad american rip off of Helloween. I'm pretty disappointed, not because they sounded horrible. They didn't, but when they hype themselves up so much, you really expect something above average.

Apparently on one of their newest songs, the solo is supposed to be amazing (again self-proclaimed). I'm going to check that one out to see if that's all BS too.

I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks about this band. I've only really heard one track so far, but it wasn't for me. There's already a Helloween and they do a good job

The first time I head "The beast and the harlot" I was actually into it... Until that god awful chorus.

IT WAS FUCKING TERIRBLE! It's a shame, they could have been a pretty good rock band.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known.

I thought they were absolutely amazing when they released Waking the Fallen in 2003 (I still stand by it), with the release of City of Evil I lost all interest in them whatsoever, haven't even checked out the new album. His voice, imo, is terrible.

I think the vocals are probably what brings the band down the most... they're not "singy" enough for most mainsteamers, and they're not "growly" enough for people on the heavier side... they're just bad.

"Burn It Down", instrumentally, is a fucking trip... it's just too bad that it's eclipsed by the shit vocal, and, for me, the really 'sell-out' type of image/presentation the band brings.

I'm so fucking sick of seeing those fags in every guitar magazine and hearing them at bars. They must have gotten one hell of a management deal to get all that promotion. I think they're about as musically important as Poison.

Waking The Fallen, I'll agree, is a pretty good album. The dude underwent vocal surgery between that album and City of Evil, though, which explains why one hates his voice now; it was actually pretty damn good before he messed his throat up

The first solo in "Almost Easy" makes me cringe.. How can a professional musician get away with being so badly out of time?!

Don't you understand? Quality of music in the "industry" doesn't matter its what SELLS what don't people get about this? It's not a hard concept.
