![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i listened to turn up the groove and it sounds like you guys threw together whatever the first riff came to mind while writing. rock and roll has been around for so long that to make a really great rock song you have to put some consideration into how your riffs are in the context of the entire song. I think you guys have a decent start but should spend a lot more time on songwriting and really belt out some awesome songs. edit : listen to these guys, they really take rock and roll home. So you're definitely on to something. The purpose of that particular song though, was to write a song that wasn't as intro/verse/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/verse/chorus/wrapitup as all our other songs. The song "Christina" is the one I am the happiest with myself, in terms of songwriting, plus the fact that I play the solo in that song and scraped myself through fairly okay.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Christina definatly had a better feel to it. I think you should really sit down and put some songs together out of your best riffs and cut out the filler. really power through and write less songs. Less songs will mean better songs as you're not trying to write around one cool riff. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You mean like sit down and actually write a completed song like I have always prefered to do?! Goddamn am I glad you're saying that :pWe have our internal squabbles like all bands, and one of the things we disagree on is just that; the writing process. I am not one for democratic songwriting, since it can very easily become one hell of a mess. You should have heard one of the songs that didn't make it on to the demo, that we also slammed together in the rehearsal space :S Every riff is preceded by a second-long break because I just could not come up with any kind of transition at all :S |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | yeah, its tough in a band situation but you gotta weigh the options. do you, let everyone contribute something to a song just to inflate their egos or do you work on riffs that could turn out to be awesome and sit on it until its ready to show them? sit your band down and talk to them about the process and work it out. I've left bands because of this exact problem. Songs get ruined by the too many chefs in a kitchen deal. Obviously everyone wants their own say but it has to fit the song. Quote:

The democracy thing just can't work in a setting where everyone except the bass player have gigantic egoes and the stubbornness of three donkeys each. But for some reason I don't know we have to struggle with it anyhoo.. Wow, this seems to veer off into another "Bitching about band politics"-thread ![]()

I would say keep going in the same direction. ![]() *Thread put back on track ;p Too much blood in my alcohol system |
