For me John FW > Ray FW. I like all the albums with John, and only one album (APSOG) and a few songs with Ray. It's not Ray's fault though, as I love Redemption.

Ray is one of my favourite metal vocalists. I definately prefer the overall progress/style changes the band have made since parting ways with their old singer. Ray still has some great pipes

the only full albums i have are Inside Out and Parallels...hadn't heard any Arch-era stuff until recently and wasn't really into his voice...i did like the stuff i heard from No Exit (that was Alder's first album with them, right?)

Heh. I have two favorite FW albums - "Awaken the Guardian" and "Perfect Symmetry". I guess I like both, although the post-"A Pleasant Shade of Gray" stuff doesn't thrill me.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

Nah you're not the only one, I definitely like the stuff with Alder more.

Redemption is also great stuff, and Nick van Dyk is a really nice guy.

i like Ray Alder's singing ALOT better than John Arch, but prefer the Arch era material. "The Spectre Within" being thier masterpiece IMO, followed closely by "Awaken The Guardian"

"Parallels", "Inside Out", and "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" are Fates Warning, to me. I love Ray's voice & Jim's guitar tone on those.

Plus, "Monument" is just one of the best prog pieces ever.

John Arch... no. bad. terrible. nails. chalkboard. ouch.
