Please tell me what this is (Paul Gilbert piece)
Paul Gilbert video
For those of you much more familiar with Paul Gilbert's history than me, can someone please tell me what song this is from, or what it's called? I just saw this for the first time and fell in love with it. I'd really like to find it, and learn to play it. (My apologies if I should've posted this in the "Lessons" forum... I debated, then stuck it here, in the hopes of catching more views. Feel free to slap my wrist if that was wrong. )

I can't view video from work otherwise I'd help you out further, but don't be afraid to post something somewhere. If it needs to be moved, we'll move it, but for something like this, no biggie. |

Yeah, I'm a Racer-X head from way back, and have that video. As far as I know, that's not a segment from any song. I think desertdweller is right in that it's an original etude thingy put together for the video.
Let me second that PG is a phenominally cool guy in person. "You can take the man out of the '80s, but you can't take the '80s out of the man." - Paul Gilbert My Prog-Metal Solo Material |

Thing is, this clip is NOT in Intense Rock 1 (although), and if I remember correctly Intense Rock 2 had a totally different background. (Someone feel free to correct me on this if Im wrong...) So I'm wondering if this was SUPPOSED to go in IR1, and maybe ended up on the "cutting room floor" so to speak. I mean everything else is the same, the background, the pruple Ibanez with the p-90's, Paul's hair (LOL). |

I listened to it for a few minutes and tabbed the first part out
|-15-12-15p12----12----------------------12-15-12-15p12----12-------| |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |-------------16----16-12-16-12----12-16----------------16----16-12-| |-------------------------------14----------------------------------| |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |-15-12-15p12----12----------------------12-15-12-15p12----12-------------------| |----------------------------------------------------------------------------15-| |-------------16----16-12-16-12----12-16----------------16----16-12----16-14----| |-------------------------------14----------------------------------16----------| |-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| It should be like that... I'm thinking... I don't have windows media player installed so I can't slow it down 1/2 way, but theres a start. If you know Rusty Cooley's - The Duel, theres a lick like this in the opening starting at 18 and 15, 19 and 15. AND, it adds up to 3 perfect measures at 16th notes, which is usually how paul gilbert constructs his melodies. Most are 2, or 4, but he's usually 3. |

Look at the string skipping, .... me Paul Gilbert is an animal, plain and simple...he's not human!
