![]() | Does it serve a purpose? I know Zakk Wylde is not a well-liked character round here, but this post doesnt really have to do with him completely. Has anyone ever looked at how he strings his LP's? wrapping the strings around the stopbar tailpiece over the tune-o-matic bridge.....does this serve a pupose? better sustain, etc? or is it just just personal pref? Theres a few other guitarists ive seen do this, names escape me right now. |

He just has always done it that way, because someone who used to tech his guitars did it that way, so he's just always done it like that. ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Allegedly the theory is that it allows you to completely lower the tailpiece, which gives you better "coupling" between the strings and the body. But since the break angle is now increased if you were to string the gtr up normally. Wrapping the string around the top of the tailpiece gives you a similar break angle to when it (tailpiece) wasn't lowered. Dunno if it's really necessary to wrap strings around like that. My TOM bridge equipped gtrs have their tailpieces lowered all the way down, and are strung normally. I've never had string breakage problems. Maybe if I were to use 9's or a smaller gauge? To be totally honest. I don't see how dropping down the tailpiece is going to have any different of a break angle than a string thru body setup. Nobody really complains about that setup. The only issue that I could see happening is if maybe you had the tailpiece all the way down, and the bridge was setup somewhat high. You might have an issue with the bridge post bending from too much side tension? The non-metric sized bridge posts do look like they could bend as they're a bit on the thin side compared to metric sized ones. |
