when i was in high school, i used to be in a classical guitar ensemble at my college. i met a lot of really cool people there, and there were a lot of people in it who were into metal. it was cool, but i quit after one semester because the music wasn't very challenging and it took up a lot of free time. anyway, i get this message on myspace the other day:

Hey, remember me from guitar ensemble? Anyways, I was over at the Dawson's place and Shane showed me some of the stuff you guys were jamming on ur "Unnamed" page...and, I was HIGHLY impressed and I wanted to know if you think you might be interested in trying out for my new band. Keanan is in this band too. Anyways, we are going for the whole All That Remains, Killswitch Engage type of thing...but with our own sound of course and I wanted another guitar player to do some bad ass harmonizing with me. So hit me up if you think you might be interested!

so, two dudes who i already know and like want me to try out for their band? sure!

so i go down there and jam with them and these guys are fucking MONSTERS on their instruments. keanan (the bassist) is incredible and comes up with very creative bass parts that rarely follow the guitar parts. when we took a break from jamming he played me some necrophagist bass parts. he also played "portrait of tracy" by jaco pastorius.

dave, the drummer, is way badass and his footwork is nothing short of amazing. his drumming style reminded me a lot of the guy from nightwish, which is cool. he comes up with some very odd feeling drum parts, which add a whole new dimension to riffs.

brendan, the guitarist, is as good as i am from a technical standpoint, and he's been playing as long as i have (but he's seven years older than i am

). he has a much different lead style than i do, which will make for some interesting solo sections. his riffs are fucking groovy and catchy as hell, and are way fun to harmonize.

the singer sounds quite a bit like the guy from all that remains in a regards. his growls, screams, and clean vocals all sounded a lot like that dude.

if i had to describe the overall style of the band, i would say all that remains mixed with dream theater. there are a lot of changes in time and tempo, which is cool because i'm totally into that sort of stuff.

they've only been together for about a month, but they have already had offers to play at the whiskey and such places. this is going to be some cool shit, and i'm glad they're giving me the opporunity to be a part of it.

look for updates in the future! i'll keep you guys up to date!

Sounds beasty from the description, sounds like same sort of feeling I had when I got in my band, the drummer is like a young Tomas Haake, the bassist can play anything easily, and the other guitarists can riff like a mofo. The other guitarist isn't as good as me from a technical standpoint, but he's only been playing 2 years, very impressive for the time he's been playing to say the least.

Get it going and get shit recorded now!
