The Malmsteen/Blackmore connection

Here's a video that really illustrates it nicely. I even saw Yng doing the "cut" motion live. They look and act so much the same (early Yng). I find it remarkable.

shtunot will become famous soon enough
His whole gimmick is a complete rip of this guy. Better technique than blackmore but image/stage presence/etc...all blackmore.

I have a bootleg of Alcatraz in I think japan.[AMAZING show] When it came time for him to do a interview they asked him a question like "do you listen to any other guitar players?"...he answered in short "no".

Totally full of crap. Everything from his haircut/clothes/stage crap like that "cut" or "deep knee bends"/color of his boots/clothes/guitar...wow I'm actually impressed as to how far he went to "get it right".

Still love YNG's first two albums. Weird...for some reason I can listen to all his albums all the way through from his first till "Fire and Ice". I've lost interest since then. I can here his reused "scale patterns"[ie:harmonic minor runs/pedal point licks] too often in his newer music. For some reason I just don't think he pushes himself like he used to.

Ed.

Yngwie is the bastard-child of Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth. I love his first album, everything else is just kinda "eh" to me.

Yngwie is a massive Blackmore fan, it's no wonder that it shows

Yng used to try to hide the Blackmore connection, but nowadays, he's much more forthcoming about his admiration for him. He just wanted to take it (the Blackmore style) to the next level.

The funny thing about this is blackmore is not an yngwie fan. i read an interview from the early 90s where they asked him about Yngwie, and blackmore basically said "One of these days he'll do something interesting"

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

There are some connections for sure, but Yngwie took it to the next level. He's so much in this baroque fashion look etc. And scalloped Blackmore fretboard looks and it's done different that Yngwie's

Yngwies Guitar tech Fergie used to be Blackmores tech.

They both set up their strats the same way: bridge and neck pickups switched ala Hendrix - no middle pup - scalloped board
