Going to record soon... HELP!!!

So, I've got the ultimate guitar and damn near the ultimate PC recording setup now and being bandless (and so far liking it that way) I'm going to begin recording an album this week. I have a 4 day weekend and plenty of time to get started.

I'm posting a poll to help me decide what direction to take the album. I have a long history of nearly every type of metal and I've narrowed it down to 3 basic directions.

Black metal
Technical Death metal
Slightly softer Opeth-ish/Vehemence-like atmospheric metal

I've been playing the likes of all 3 lately and can't decide which one I'm most inspired to do. You guys pick it, I'll make it happen.

I may just have to do something like the dude from Unholy Matrimony and make like 5 different solo projects to satisfy myself but this is just to get me started.

an Opeth direction would certainly cover alot of territory...
if you are at all worried about limiting yourself with the
direction you choose, then I'd choose this one

Kane has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Why don't you just play what you love to play? Write the songs that come to mind. What do you have recorded so far? If you have enough talent and material to have 5 side projects going, you should already have a record out by now...

Yeah, just start writing and see what happens. Forget genre names, or if you HAVE to think in terms of names, come up with a new genre name and try to write music to fit it.

Just write whatever comes. To get started perhaps just pick a genre, but don't limit yourself to any preconceptions. The cool thing about having a home studio is that you can do, literally, anything. I'm really excited about the future because I think we are living in an age when the home studio will revolutionize the way we conceive of and compose music. We're not limited by time or resources. There is a steep learning curve (for the various softwares), but with the sound shaping resources at our disposal, literally anything is possible.

Check out with this jazz keyboardist did with a casio keyboard, an accordian, and toys around his house...

I say combine them all into one genre. Have fun with it, experiment.

I think you're all right, I'll combine them and maybe even add more outside styles to it. Should be interesting! I guess I get to find out just how versatile and creative I am!
