![]() | Aaa, I'm gonna go listen to Uncle Moe's Space Ranch again. The guy is unbelievable. I love his phrasing, it always sounds so abstract and unique, you can immediately tell it's him playing. Does anybody know what scale / modes he uses in that video, I'm just curious if it's something weird or if it's something really basic but used in a marvelous way. |

He's a fusion player similar to Garsed but he takes the fusion thing and applies it to blues, so it sounds really fresh. If you were to make a scale with Holdsworth on one end and Henderson on the other, Garsed would be in the middle, if you follow my drift. [/sortavaguelyrelevant] |

Regarding his scale choices, I've heard him say in interviews that he doesn't use many esoteric scales; he uses the same modes that most people use, but adds lots of chromatic notes, and always targets the notes of the chords he's playing over, which is why his playing sounds so melodic and sophisticated, even when he's just jamming over a simple groove. He's a great one to study for any rock or metal guitarist who's interested in developing fusion-style phrasing, as he uses similar thought processes to jazz/fusion soloists, but in more rock context, and in his instructional videos he makes the thinking behind improvising a lot more accessible.
