I can't really say I like Jag Panzer, but the stuff of Chris I've heard on his own... well.... he's just the best there is in metal lead guitar right now.

that's where i'm coming from. my girlfriend [dutifully] sat beside me had already sung the chorus to 'believe in nothing' before it'd even loaded, and i don't like it at all, but his solo videos have honestly blown me away.

Chris Broderick doesn't play on "Believe In Nothing", or any other Nevermore track for that matter; thus far he's been a touring guitarist only. From what I gather, the band seem pretty reluctant to make him a legitimate member, although I can't imagine why...

well this is what i'm surprised by, but then i was simply saying that i just don't really like their music or delivery really, which is perhaps why i'd never heard of him other than what 7 dying trees had enthused at me.

forgive my ignorance, but what sort of music should i expect? typically i can handle a lot of prog, but very lately i've fallen straight back into my tech death phaze again...

Chris is a terrific player, but I definitely feel Jag Panzer holds him back. That band in my opinion is, well to be blunt, terrible. Power metal to me is supposed to be really catchy and fun, mixing heaviness with infectious melodies and strong singing. Jag Panzer just doesn't have any of that, very bland, not memorable or catchy to me.

to be honest, i'm really very hit / miss with power metal. my co-singer is a big fan but for reasons that i don't always get ("yes, i KNOW it's that bad / cheesy, that's why it's great" which is like the 'necro' production argument for black metal) but then i'm really, REALLY amazed and drawn to his classical playing. fantastic.

and mate, thank you for that comment there. i can't collect credit, as it's john's work, but as part of the production team i really appreciate you saying that and i hope that the new stuff will please.

Yeah, I'm okay if its cheesy (hell, I like Rhapsody and Gamma Ray), as long as it's well written and catchy. As for black metal, haha "necro" production. I hear that. The only black metal I like is the kind with good/great production, like Dimmu Borgir, newer Emperor, older Cradle of Filth, etc. I guess that's not 'true' black metal though.

No problem for the compliment. I absolutely adore that CD, can't wait for the new one. Hopefully it'll be available in the US so I don't have to go through iTunes

dude, i play in a black metal band and yet i utterly despise the majority of black metal production that's almost expected nowadays. i've actually had to call my singer out in worms of sabnock about the amount of reverb applied to my bass lines when i'd actually already selected the tone myself.

emperor, for me, provide the best. then maybe (as much as i so completely hate them) dimmu. i'm planning on writing a black metal album that has all the musicality of the most horrible and grim musical structures but with full-on commercial sounds.

From Mechanized Warfare, i'd suggest "Frozen in Fear", "take to the Sky", "scarlet letter", & "choir of tears". They have some music videos on YouTube, but the videos are indeed some of the lamest music videos i've ever seen.

"Thane To The Throne" and "Mechanized Warfare" are both pretty sick albums, IMO. Some Jag Panzer is pretty goofy, what power metal doesn't have off tracks? (I am a fan of power metal, btw)

I'm listening to this track now. (Off of "Thane To The Throne" which is an album based on Shakespeare's MacBeth)

Check out Keep of Kallessin if you haven't already, as they strike a good balance between 'necro' sounds and modern, glossy production. Suspect you'd like...

Chris is sreiously one of the best guitarists out there at the moment, but I honestly can't find anything good about Jag Panzer.
They're all great musicians but the the songs they write aren't very inspiring IMO

Actually, I think Broderick is the one who has been reluctant to join nevermore, not the other way around.
