Can anyone else appreciate this band?

They're a band called Portal, and they're an Extreme\Black Metal\Death Metal\Noise\Whatever you want to call them band from Australia.

Personally, I find this music absolutely mind blowing, and I'm looking for people to share it with, but I know that so many people will simply hear it as incomprehensible noise.

Well anyway.... here's their myspace. (their artwork is eerie as hell... fits perfectly with their music.)

I have heard portal. They are crazy. I'll be buying outre because it's absurd. The band photos in the album are awesome.

They share a member with Internicene Excoriation, who tune their 7 strings down to C#. Think about that.

I like how their myspace doesnt show friends, cause they're too KVLT for friends.

Im listening now, i'll get back to you on my verdict.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

I can't wait to get my hands on that album... I'm hoping I'll be able to find it.

I'm surprised you know one of their names, I can't seem to find any information about their members, history, or anything.

And C#...? o_o

I'll check it out, but I'm stopping an Alice in Chains album for this (Facelift if you're wondering), so this had better be good :P

Actually, scratch that, I was thinking of Limb from Limb. Portal don't share with anyone because they are too gr1m to even be known.

Maybe I subconsciously wanted to bring up the C# thing and that's what did it.

I'm really not sure what to make of these guys. I listened to most of the tracks (and maybe it's partially because I had a headache anyway, but my ears are fatigued as hell). It's like grim sludge/post-metal, but more aggressive. So far I'm not really digging it, but I think I might have to listen to those tracks from Outre a few different times to get what these guys are about, and maybe to figure out whether or not the tracks are supposed to sound like that.

They take a 7-string and tune it down a minor seventh? That's got to sound either really great or really, really bad. What about the bass? That's got to be some unison riffing there unless Gary Goodman is playing bass for them. What the hell string gauges do they use for that? Criminy.

I would use light gauge (.009 or .008's) and tune up.

But that defeats the purpose of what they're trying to do. They're trying to make strings tuned SO low that you can't even physically hear them. Unfortunately, what you DO hear is guitars that sound like mud slopping through a bog.
