My instructional DVD

Hey everyone,

I haven't really introduced myself.............................and I am not going to now.

Basically I just want some feedback off you enthusiasts before I record my DVD and get the book printed.
The instructional I am doing is going to cover many aspects of guitar with the long term aim of playing riffs. I don't believe this has ever been done properly, all I have seen are bad quality books and videos with a few riffs and then some self promotion.

The DVD has been partitioned into 3 levels of difficulty.
Each level then has 4 further sections Picking Hand Development, Fretting Hand Development, Concepts of Time and then each section ends with various riffs and performance pieces. Please note that the exercises in this DVD are not just the obvious, I feel I have many unique ways of developing technique. There are also a huge amount of rhythmic possibilities that are rarely explored by a guitarist.
Once the appropriate level of proficiency is reached, the guitarist can enter the next level.

Currently I am undecided on how I will present the DVD. I have 2 options...
I can either put them all into one set or sell them separately. I think "level 1" will be pretty pointless for a lot of guitarists and selling it as one package might put the better players off.
Also if I sold them together there would possibly be an overwhelming amount of information (book is looking to be 15,000 words). Although this might be good for a fairly new guitarist as it will give them years of things to practice.

Which would you prefer?

Who would be interested in such a product?

How much would you be prepared to pay for it? (all 3 levels)
Bare in mind there will be 6/7 hours of footage and contain potentially endless things to do. Backing tracks will also be included on 3 audio CDs.

Are there any things in the area of riffing/technique that you or your friends struggle with that you would like to see covered in great detail?

Please help me out as much as possible on this as I have put insane amounts of hours into its development.

Thank you
Jon

I'm real fan of instructional DVD's and for me more is better.
I have at least 120 different guitar instructionals on VHS\CD\DVD and I never find one with "everything" and I think it's almost impossible
If you'll cover all parts from beginning to advanced player I think is the best - all 3 steps in one package.
All instructionals are 1 hour long or little more, so 6-7h looks very interesting for me.
About the book..
If it covers lot of materials it can be even 3 times bigger
I think it's always nice to train some "easy techniques", because no one is "good enough" and there's always space to make something better even if we think we're good enough
How much for it - it's hard to tell prices are always different.

Great, glad someone is helping me out.
120 instructional is ridiculous! You must know everything already.

The price is the thing I am finding hardest to come up with.

It needs to be fairly expensive to cover the time and resources needed. But if I set it too high it wont sell....hmmm tricky

keep the opinions coming please

My thoughts tend towards selling the 3 levels separately and for a fairly low price.

I teach for a living, and I've noticed a lot of people like to have another book to progress to after they've finished one. Gives them a big sense of accomplishment, instead of feeling lost if the get to the end of a single book which has no sequel.

You'd probably want to do a bit of a survey of the price of similar instructional materials and price yours the same or a little less.

You may have to think of your time & effort put into the materials as an investment which may take quite a few years to pay off. You'll probably have to put as much work into the promotion of your books as you did to create them in the first place. But it may be well worth it in the long run.

Best of luck!
