My first foray into tech death riffing

...trying to learn to play Necrophagist's Stabwound. Man this shit is hard. Come on Muhammad, you can't have one riff for more than a few seconds?

Whether it's laughable or irrational, this is the path that ALL great men walk!
If there's a wall in our way, we'll destroy it!
If there's no road, we'll pave it with our own hands!
The magma in our hearts is blazing like flames!
Who the hell do you think we are?

TheMasterplan will become famous soon enough
I feel your pain My seven is in the shop, so all I have is my six and I tuned it to D standard to learn some Death and whatnot. Then I remembered that Necrophagist plays in D standard so I took a stab at Stabwound [no pun in tended] and it is hard as hell. I only have up to the first lead fill, I haven't had the time to put in lately to continue learning it. And as if this wasn't a lesson learned, when I get my seven back I wanted to attempt Spawn Of Possession's Dead & Grotesque.

stabwound is a good (but hard) tutorial song in tech death (and in necrophagist's style). it's got some fast string skippings, some fast in-out tapping, good alternate scale runs, some sweet sweeps and a cool solo full of h-o's and p-o's, so if you aren't down with all the techniques it might take you a while to nail the song thoroughly.

personally i had a harder time with Samis parts than Muhammed's (and songwriting aside Sami > Muhammed in my book ), but as soon as you get into their "way of playing", most of their songs uses the same tricks. what im trying to say is a word of comfort, when you got stabwound down their other songs will be "alot" easier to learn.

just keep at it, for me its easier to break techsongs down into tiny bits and hit them til i have them up to speed, but you know best what works for you.
good luck (and may any god of patience, if there is one, be with you.)

Eat Shit. Billions of flies can't be wrong.

Why not try Epitaph? It's decent to learn.
