on atleast one of their albums the drums are full of mistakes, and the drummer admits it, this is because they had very little time in the studio so alot of it was rushed. He's still godly though, my drummer used to talk to him alot through e-mails and on the forum. Major influence for our music.
If they mass produce dinos 8 string, i'm getting one for sure!

hmmm... I've had a Mithras CD for a while and played the shit out of it for quite some time. I forgot all about it. I busted it back out today and now I'm pissed, a riff I wrote the other day is IDENTICAL to one on the CD.
Drew, death metal drums own your ass!!! |

That may be true, but it doens't mean I have to listen to them.
I'll take Danny Carey over this stuff any day. |

I'll take a drummer who can do something other than Blastbeats when required. My personal favourite would be Martin Lopez of Opeth. What a drummer! But with that said, I really can't see what else would suit the style of Mithras in terms of drums.

Seems the masses always like the guitars in death metal and nothing else. They tend to hate the vocals and drums. I always ask, "What the hell else would sound good with guitar riffs like that?"

Opeth's drummer does in fact kick ass.
Actually, the vocals haven't been a problem - they were a turnoff initially, but once you're used to it, it's not too bad at all. Hell, I'm trying to learn to do the growl thing myself, just in case. (Strangely, it seems to make it easier to sing conventionally afterwards, although I still suck rather badly... ) It's just the drums... What'd sound better? Opeth is a good example, but for me, conceptually, something that isn't such a "wall of sound" - it's just SO much that you lose impact, I feel. |
