Name some of your favorite smaller independent labels...

...because I'm shopping the disc and looking for anyone who'll take it and help promote it

Any labels you guys could suggest that I haven't already thought of or contacted would be great.

Geez, Vince, I'd sign you if I was a record label. What labels have you tried so far? You know you could always try Favored Nations.

Hey Shawn, when I first put the album out, I submitted to Favored Nations. I took what I believed to be the right approach, through a manager directly to the label, pre-solicited (i.e. they said send it in). They never responded. I figure they either didn't like it or didn't think they could promote it.

I've only submitted to a couple other labels, and most of the time even if they ask for material, I haven't heard responses back.

In the meantime, I've made a tidy profit off the CD without a promotion budget, and I'd love to get it out to a bigger crowd. Plus, I'd love to have my solo stuff on a label and get wider recognition for the music than I currently have.

You guys are the most knowledgeable resource I have, so I figured I'd ask you all.

If you're shopping your instrumental CD, I'd definately check out Magna Carta.

two to recommend -

www.elementalrecords.com - Elemental Records, i think that;s their address. Remind me to send you some Floater. A Seattle-ish based label with roots in exotic metal.

www.Insideoutmusic.com - Inside Out Records. Seriously, their catalogue is so good yet so obscure tha i could probably buy every single disc they offer that I haven't heard of, and not regret it. One abbreviation - OSI. enough said

the only thing you need a label for is Promotion and advertisement..everything else can be done by web sites of your own. You can also Pay for distrobution. I am involved with three labels and they are only for Promotion and advertisment..we can do everything else ourselves we do not exspect tour support anyway !!! Relapse do a great job at that and Red Stream too.But seriouly I think LION Music is the Home for you man (Vince) that way you could tour with Rusty or OUTWORLD....

Don't bother shopping for a label if you don't have any proof that the CDs already selling. They want someone who's going to keep selling really well for them and has a good following already, something that they can feel confident about. No one will sign someone just because the music's good, you need the independent success to back it up.
