The Tea Party - appreciation thread

They were the best thing to come from Canada since Rush, IMO.

I saw this performance on Much Music years ago and just had to buy their albums:

This album is by far their best IMO:

They used somewhere around 33 different musical instruments on this album, and the wide range of tones and great passionate songwriting really kept me interested in these guys for a long time. It's too bad they tried to go so commercial, because they had some fucking amazing songs & musical ideas.

Here's a great song of theirs from The Edges of Twilight, Sister Awake. Check out the sitar in the background. Badass:

The Bazaar:

And here's my favorite song of theirs, Heaven Coming Down. The 12-string Rick at the beginning is beyond fucking epic IMO:

I love you...so much...right now

This band is, flat out, the reason I play guitar. I own every album, including the travesty that killed them (their last album, thanks to Bob Rock). Plus side, I didn't pay for their last album, I won it on the radio.

I haven't bothered checking out Jeff Martin's solo album yet, though I did see the vid of him with the 8-string resonator and it got my hopes up a bit.

Saw them live back on the Triptych tour, it was my first concert, and it was killer. I even have a bootleg of that show.

Stu's been doing video game music (Prince of Persia series for example), and Jeff B. did this:
YouTube - The Big Dirty Band - I Fought the Law

And to think, if it hadn't been for them, I wouldn't have cared about:
Daniel Lanois
The Doors
Led Zeppelin
Nine Inch Nails
David Bowie

...the list goes on

Yeah, to me TTP is definitely like a modern Doors.

Yeah, for sure. They get a lot of hassle for "ripping off" a lot of classic bands, but I don't mind them wearing their influences on their sleeves.

I'd have to give that to "The Kids in The Hall" with "The Frantics" a very close second.

If we're sticking to music, Aldo Nova had some really good stuff, but not much caught on here in "The States", and of course everybody knows Loverboy, but I'd really have to put Max Webster/Kim Mitchell in the #2 spot.

The Ultimate Question: What string gauge is needed for 18.84# of tension when tuned to E2 on a 27" scale guitar?

Great band - All I have is "The Interzone Mantras" which is a pretty seriously good album - "Master and Margarita" and "Cathartik" both own, though "Angels" and "Soulbreaker" kick a hell of a lot of ass on the ballad-y side of things too.

Yeah, killer album, their last really good one, IMHO.

But as much as I trash talk their last album, even their worst album isn't as bad as some band's best albums

Jeff Martin's where I got my lead style, I'm pretty sure. If I can't sing it, or get it stuck in my head humming it all day, it's not the solo for the song

Incidentally: I love this place, mainly because it'd take me all night to track down all the threads on Jemsite where I tried to get people to check out this band and got shot down, or people just hated the music.
