so that's what i'm going to do!

i'll pick it up again as soon as i feel inspired.

EDIT: fuck, i have to work tomorrow. i'll take a break after that.
Well, dude, sometimes it is just a matter of taking some time off from it. Also, I find that you have to mentally "work" to do something genuinely different. When you develop your technique, you build yourself into a box and you'll default to it... constantly! When I write, I section together the compositions piece-by piece, re-"zeroing" myself at every step to not just play the generic, expectant crap I've learned over the years. Dunno if that helps... probably not.

Thomas edison once said, "Many of life's failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." Don't put so much pressure on yourself and keep playing. My favorite thing about guitar is that you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Just pick up and play and stop worrying about writing the next epic song. Sooner or later you will get the results your looking for.

haha... i've spent so long trying to perfect my technique over the past nine years that i sometime forget that its all about the music. i sometimes get into "sport metal" territory of pointless shredding and bland riffs. i think i'm going to try to do what you do, and stop myself every once in a while and make shure that i'm not rehashing some shit that i've done before. thanks.

Yeah you should take a break.

And come back with a non-carvin guitar!

Imo your music seems to be focused on the keyboards and drum loops. What songs do you play guitar on?

Buy an Ibanez. That should help.

No EMG's, either.

Taking a break periodically is good. You'll find that you come back with a lot more inspiration if you take a week or two off. More than that, though, and you will notice the hurt it puts on your chops.
