BZM is a jewel in the rough
The death metal album of the DECADE. (so far)

MySpace.com - Defeated Sanity - - Death Metal - www.myspace.com/defeatedsanity

(Listen to the song Psalms of the Moribund, then listen to everything else!)

Words can't describe the genius of this band's latest effort, "Psalms of the Moribund". It has one of my top 3 drum performances of all time in the genre, courtesy of Lille Gruber, who did almost everything in one take and also composed all the guitar parts for this album. Everyone in this band is a virtuoso, but they're not too predisposed with shredding... all they want to do is RIFF THEIR NUTS OFF, and in the most brutal way possible. There might be heavier bands, like Meshuggah and Gojira, but no one is more brutal... not even Disgorge.

Just listen to those jazz-infused fills, those ghost notes, that feeling... that flow! And all of these crazy time signature... no click required.

Check out this UNBELIEVABLE live tightness...

And this is how sick their bassist is...

And here's my buddy tim covering one of their songs so you can see what playing one looks like..

I can honestly say I've spun psalms more than 200 times from start to finish and it STILL hasn't gotten old, truly a remarkable album, you just have to listen to it until it finally clicks to you and at that point, you will become endlessly enthralled by it. ENJOY!

I've been into them for a while and they're certainly one of the best but Necrophagist is at the top of my list for best death metal band of the last several years, joined by Spawn of Possession, The Shattering, and Anata. I think you'd probably like Deadborn quite a bit too if you haven't heard 'em.

The Shattering - MySpace.com - The Shattering - Karlskrona - Death Metal - www.myspace.com/theshatteringsweden

Of the DECADE eh? Well thats certainly high praise, I'll be checking out that album for sure. Hopefully it's as good as you say, but then again our tastes probably differ (for example I don't find Meshuggah heavy even in the slightest)

For now, NILE remains KING

As I tried to say, heavy and brutal are two different things... very few people tune as low as Meshuggah, hahaha, and their sound is just massive. But it's not VIOLENT in the same way that death metal is. Nile is great, one of my favorites, but to be honest, I think Psalms crushes almost everything they've ever done...

Oh, and Scott, I love all the bands you mentioned! They're absolutely superb, but, even Necrophagist has flaws... (I really can't stand their solos for long, cut and paste cookie cutter guitar solos...) but Psalms of the Moribund does not. It's flawless.

I'm checking out the Psalms album now.

Meshuggah is neither heavy or brutal to me. It's just repetitive noise to me. It's just my opinion, if others think otherwise that's cool. Heavy and brutal are different, but many bands can have both qualities. Usually bands that are brutal are heavy too, but it doesnt work the other way around as frequently IMO.

Eh, the main reason I titled this thread like this so that people would actually give it serious attention... but I'm not sure how many people at ss.org now will actually appreciate music like this .

But, to anyone that's listened to death metal and wished it were more brutal, more twisted and just overwhelmingly evil - this is it. It honestly doesn't get more brutal than this.

Dude, plenty of people will dig it, SS.org is very diverse. Like I said in the JFAC thread:

"That said man, don't hold back from raving about bands you love, it's cool to check out new stuff. I don't read magazines or goto a lot of shows, so the only way people like me will find out about new bands like this is from word of mouth."

Am I the only one who saw decade in caps and thought it was some odd 6 string guitar tuning?
