I never liked punk either, although I love the Misfits.

Most anything acoustic. Especially if it's written by metal bands

Classic and contemporary jazz & fusion (no friggen' "smooth" jazz or whatever)
World music and so called new age (James Asher, Dead Can Dance, stuff like that)
Lots of prog rock both classic and contemporary
Instrumental rock (Satch, Vai, etc.)
Blues
Industrial rock and EBM
Some electronic and symphonic stuff (a few movie score composers in there)
A slew of crossover bands like Faith No More, Primus, Altered State, etc.

...oh yeah, and funk!

I just recently discovered that guy. Somebody gave me like every album he did with bad seeds. It comes up on shuffle a lot. It's so close to being something that i wouldn't listen to, but his voice is just so fuckin cool.

and yeah... I don't listen to music by genre. I don't like metal or rap or alternative rock. I like specific artists and bands. There's a lot of metal i like. I've even surprised myself by liking Opeth, a death metal band. But then i'm not about to enjoy all the other death metal that i didn't enjoy before. I love some artists/bands that are labeled as progressive rock, but I'm kinda turned off to the scene for certain reasons.

i dunno. there are so many kinds of music i'll enjoy and i just listen to the ones that i think are worth listening to. I jokingly say that country is the only genre i don't listen to, but i love some stuff with a country feel to it. It's just gotta have something that interests me.

and there is good contemporary (at least the last five years) rap music. You just can't turn to the radio to find it. Anybody check out Outkast's double album from 2003? The Love Below is a really fuckin interesting concept album with a wide spectrum of musical influences, while Speakerboxx is just a fucking awesome straight up hip hop album. Those discs are up there on my list of favorite albums along with a ton of rock music.

KillMAH will become famous soon enough
I'm a real sucker for Southern-tinged rock like, especially, the Drive-by Truckers. It's nasty and gritty in a way that metal can't be...unless you're Pantera (RIP).

Wilco is great for songwriting and experimental music. I love ALL of their music, and a lot of the "Alt Country" music in the vein of Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt.
