Korn's new album

Anyone get a sneak listen to it? I did and I'm rather surprised, I like it! It's a lot better IMO than "See You on the Other Side" (which I didn't like enough to buy). I'm definitely buying this one. Of course, it's still nothing like their older style but I found a good number of the songs very catchy and well written. They also bring back more use of eeire/twisted sounds like deep vibrato guitar riffs, detuned piano/synths, etc. I even like the intro track which is a short track with a twisted carnival/circus sound to it. A lot of the vocals sound a bit like they did on "Untouchables" as there's a familiar delay/reverb sound to them. I still don't care for the tracks "Evolution" and "I Will Protect You" however.

Anyhow, I think it's definitely a decent album and I will be picking it up when it's out

Yeah, I love it too. It definitely has a FTL feel to it at some points because of the eerie guitar and whammy and shit. I was surprised to hear some solos (they were short and not complex at all, but solos) on two of the songs. I liked all of the songs except for Kiss because of the annoying ass drums (the rest of the song is great though, the fucking drums ruin it for me). Hold On is so fucking catchy. Love and Luxury is incredibly catchy as well.

It has me so excited, it feels like Munky finally got his inspiration back since Head left.

Well, I downloaded it, but I'm the kind of guy to buy it if I like it and this one I'm buying. Buuut.... it seems as though today they put the whole album up for listening on their Myspace page:

www.myspace.com/korn

Downside, it's cool if you don't like it. I didn't like SYOTOS except for like 2 songs. I also wasn't super crazy about TALITM but I liked enough songs to buy it. In all honesty I was expected pure utter shit from this one so maybe my standards were so lowered that I got suprised? Nah, I do like it musically though. One thing everyone has to do is stop hoping Korn to be Korn again, it just aint gonna happen. And by the way, I don't consider this growing, it's just a different path. A path that I'm not happy with but at least I liked enough of this new album.

I never bought See You On The Other Side because I lost interest in Korn after Issues, however, I did buy Take A Look In The Mirror which I like. There new stuff hasn't interested me though.

I'm liking it so far. But then, I liked See You On The Other Side, and didn't thought Take A Look In The Mirror was boring because it was just Korn trying to recapture their old sound and sounding uninspired (except a few really good songs).

And I like the drums on "Kiss"

Anyone know if/where the 8-string guitar shows up on this album?

Or the 15-string bass?

I've only given a brief listen to parts of each song, and a few whole songs.

Hold On is the best song on that album. They should make that their single like twisted transistor was on SYOTOS.

This album is soo much better and seems Munky is finally writing some good shit.

i got exactly what i expected out of it since i started hearing leaks, crap. musically from a musicans standpoint is it better? i wouldnt personally say better, but they have expanded i guess. I would call it a growth album though, not just a different path, this is now korn, you could see it on the last one, there were like 2 tracks from the last i liked as well, and everything else lead to this album. i agree that hed really as a big part, cause they havent released much since he left that was anything near the older stuff. I will always hope to hear that old korn sound again (i've got some leaks from the previous album of unreleased stuff that is really heavy and cool) i wont expect to hear it, but i'll hope for it... but the chances of that pretty much disappeared when Korn gave god head...

I also noticed that the songs have song writing credits given to Korn, The Matrix, and some other guy. That's weak. The album is okay I guess.

This album sounds pretty good so far, I lost track of Korn after Issues but did check out TALITM. This new one sounds a bit experimental, a lot of the songs I find kinda catchy and the entire album has a old korn feel without the old korn sound.

Well, I downloaded it, and i'll definately be buying the CD.

It's definately something diffrent for korn. The only two albums I own are the first one, and Issues. I love the first one, but Issues blew chunks. I've been meaning to get see you on the other side.

It's got such a dark feel to it, it's almost industrial. There's so much going on at once, it's amazing. I have to give them credit for constructing such thick, musical songs.

Its a hell of alot better than the last one. I still am NOT a fan of the production. It drowns the guitars in a poor sonic mix. It totally spoils the music in my opinion...

.. favourite songs are Hold On and Killing.

Verdict - so so, where's the RIFFS man. Korn used to be about big fat-ass riffs and dicking about with lots of cool sounding pedals. Guitars that sounded immense and made people want to rush out to buy a 7-string so they could see if they could also a similar racket. OK my laptop has crappy speakers, but the guitars sounded like shit and I'm struggling to remember any standout riffs. :|

Really cool they experimented with using songwriters like The Matrix. For the people who are not into pop production, that's the production team behind Avril Lavigne's success. Now, you can dislike their productions, but they are very good at it. Does anyone know if The Matrix also produced their own songs on this album?

Once again, I'd say Jon Davis had more influence over this album than any of their co-writers/producers (The Matrix and Atticus Ross). It sounds, in places, a lot like the Queen of the Damned stuff, just like parts of the last album.

The Matrix only worked on a few songs then left due to creative differences, same goes for Terry Bozzio, but he left because of personality conflicts.

to put it nicely, imo this album was, as expected, very bad.

but i envy those of you who liked it, i would SO love to like a new korn album for a change.

and i am angry with them. for again not making an album i like haha

Listened to 3 songs so far, and I'm really liking it. Then again, I LIKE nu-metal, I like thick orchestral arrangements and mixes, and I like tunes I can sing along with. So far, this has all three.

*Merlin gets ready for the

That's not ALL I like, of course, but I AM liking the new Korn so far. And I agree, it feels like Jon's influence to me, especially after hearing the Unplugged arrangements. A mix of rock, hip-hop, and New Romantic pop, which describes their influences pretty well, I'd say.
