Korn's new single ....
http://www.kornworld.de/downloads/~s...-KoRnWorld.mp3
Being a Korn fan , I must say I'm impressed . The sound is still Korn , but I think it's definately more mature and polished . Munky's "new" sound is pretty damn cool IMO , and it has changed quite a bit . Being that this is a Korn topic , I must refuse liability for any ensuing FLAME WAR ! Well , what ya'll think ?

wow, i must say, this is pretty different from the regular korn stuff. it's more regular rock with a 7 string. kinda like adema with jonathan davis on vocals. they didn't whore effects too much, which i actually liked. munky's tone is fuckin holy on this song too. the beat/rhythm is kinda cheesy. i'm gonna say i like it, but i still wish they would make stuff like they did on their first album, really raw sounding. i'm impressed that korn kept it together after head left, and still made a nice song.

Well, yes, I do wish they would make music like on their first album, which I think was awesome, with songs like Ball Tongue and Blind.
This song was completely different from the normal Korn stuff, but I'll agree that the chorus is kind of cheezy and I don't really care for Jonathan Davis' "new way of singing." But not bad. |

I'm sorry, but this blows ass. It sounds like another generic dance club remix with heavy guitars over a techno beat.
Fuck, I wonder if they'll ever re-discover their first 3 albums. Those were classic. |

Where's the bass?
I actually though some of the recent stuff was ok, this didn't do much for me at all though. Good to see them moving on, mind. |

That being said, even though this is Korn and I sorta lke it just because it's Korn, it still blows. I have to say I agree with ol' Shannon on this one, and with Naren. Jon's singing... this sounds like they wanted to re-redo 'Word Up'. Munky's guitar sounds cool. But drums? Gah. Daves much better than that. And yeah, where's Fieldy? The bass sound is totally different I feel slightly trepiditious right now...

I am sad to say that i think Fear Factory took the same route... hopefully they will prove me wrong with the next album. But at least Pantera broke up while they were still bad asses, and still have the respect of their original die hard fans to this day. |

I'd have to say i think the song sucks too personally. It just doesn't sound like korn, almost any band could sound like this song, it isn't unique or special.

This sounds like they're trying to re-invent themselves in a last-ditch effort to stay on the label. That's a common strategy for a band that's outlived it's fans' interest. Look at the Village People, they had an 80s synth pop album that no one remembers. Danzig did a techno album. Metallica did St. Anger. Megadeth did Risk. Madonna blew a horse. It happens. This new Korn song sounds like the late 90s band Orgy. Not really too bad, but not really interesting either. |

I'm not feeling it. I'm not a huge Korn fan or hater. This just seems lackluster. The sad thing about bands like Korn is that they defined a whole genre and era of heavy music. Then just like every human on the planet they grow and / or change as time passes. Then they try new things or are into other things and they lose all their old fans because they aren't the same Korn everyone fell in love with.
It's a lot like Metallica. With the exception of St. Anger (which really didn't do it for me) I like all the stuff they released. I love all the stuff from Black and backwards much more than the more "modern" sound. In fact, if you look at these little "mini eras" as different bands, the albums are pretty cool. Hell, I really liked Load once I got over the fact that it wasn't the Justice or Puppets era Metallica. Back to this single, I think they're missing Head a lot more than even they thought they would. I feel for Munky, having to take up all the space by himself is a big task. In my eyes neither guitarist was incredible alone but it was the interplay that defined Korn. Now they have to redefine themselves and that's always a bitch. |

I'm not a big fan, but I don't hate them. The thing is, I can't get past what they're doing to the new guitar player at the live shows. I think it's shit. I'm done with 'em.
Of course...I suppose he agreed to do it. It doesn't really do anything for me...which means it will likely be huge. LOL. |

As far as Korn, I think their first album was by far their best. And I LOVE Orgy. I have their first two albums, which are awesome. Their second album, Vapor Transmission, is very very cool and it has songs on it that I've never heard any other band do music like. Of course, it got minimal airplay (their first album had 2 hits though - their cover of "Blue Monday" was pretty sweet, I think). And I don't think Orgy sounded anything at all like Korn and I very very much disagree that this new song sounds like Orgy. This new song to me sounds like Korn's take on "Word Up" taken way too far. |

I think they've been aimless for their last 2 albums, Untouchables had some moments but for the most part it was like they were trying too hard. Take a Look.. sucked because they were trying to copy the sound of the first 2 albums without actually getting any of the things that made them great across.
The self titled and Life Is Peachy sound great because they have this vibe - a bunch of kids making some (at the time) out there music, the productions raw, the vocals are really raw..everythings just got this dirtyness to it that made it great. Everything after that got more glossy and slowly they lost all the stuff that made them great in the first place. |

I love Korn and Life is Peachy. I wasn't too impressed by Follow the Leader... too hip-hoppy sounding (even though I like hip-hop, just... any rate) But I really like Issues a LOT. Probably my favorite Korn album, and it was #4. They really hit their stride by that album, sorta like Zeppelin IV. Then a 3 year or so hiatus, and out comes 'Untouchables'... which is good, but lacking a bit of something. Take A Look... also, good but a little less of that magic (even though there's quite a few songs on there I like). Then the Greatest Hits. Eh. The cover of Word Up and The Wall were cool, but really, that album is pretty uninspired from a creative standpoint.
But 'Issues'! Man... Make Me Bad Falling Away From Me Hey Daddy Somebody, Someone Trash Dirty And the neat little ditties Dead and 4U. Those are some GREAT songs on that album.

Nah, but seriously, the chorus riff from Angel Of Disease is the main riff for Ball Tongue (For ref., AoD came first, written/released on the Morbid Angel demo in '86 and re-released on Abominations of Desolation in 1991... Korn and Munky were supposedly Huge Morbid Angel fans and apparently, they covered God Of Emptiness at some point.. which is funny, considering why Head left..lol) Download it some time ;p
