For those who care...

..and even those who do not, here's a little update.

I quit my job. I was working at Sam Ash music in Springfield NJ. I had actually recently been transferred to the department manager of guitars. But I have also been teaching a LOT, and was getting more and more in demand. I was up to 13 students, as well as like 50hrs a week at the store. I was running on fumes most of the times, and felt like I was doing 2 jobs kind of half-assed. I wanted to focus on one of them and do it well. Then the epiphany....it would only take 10 1-hour lessons a week to financially equal what it took 50hrs and lots of stress to take home. I realized that in all honesty, I was choosing to throw my time away. So the choice was easy. And it was one of the most relieving things I have ever done. (Anyone who's worked in a GC or Scam Ass...er Sam Ash knows just how miserable the pay is, good salesman or not....it's a crime what they actually are robbing from you) So I'm officially an independent guitar/bass instuctor!!! YAY!

So, what this means is that I focus more intently on my students and finer preparation for very individualized lessons. Plus, much more time for myself to practice, write and record. Unfortunately my progressive masterpiece of a band has dwindled back down to myself and a drummer....more updates on that as it happens. But I'm working on new stuff right now, and I'll probably post some clips here to get some honest criticism.

Not to mention....I'll actually have time to be an active type member over here on the forum as well!!!! Sorry for being in hiding for so long...

Richard Tull is on a distinguished road
Same here. I figured out that if I get 20 students a week I'm making as much as I make at my current (crap) job and only working 1/4 of the hours.

i too am a teacher. i teach at a store,so for me, 30 students (10 per day) is my goal. Right now, i have 18.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

I'm at about 15 right now. I'm shooting for 25. Kind of a lot, but there's always the cancellations, and the bills don't care.

Ironically all but 3 of my students are of the beginner type. Only one is what I would consider advanced, the other 2 I would say are intermediate players. And one is a bass student. I'm a patient guy and I kinda get a kick out of teaching the beginners. Funny, when I occasionally get frustrated with someone who is slow or not practicing, I just think of what I'm getting paid to show someone how to make an E chord or whatever. That cheers me right up! It's almost theft!!! Thankfully there is a strong demand for that.

Yeah, dude. I find with the beginners, at least the young ones-- Method book = Godsend.

way to stick it to the man! :p

now if i could just find a teacher around here...

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.
