At the end of the day it isn't much different to 'Death' vocals. Mostly just sounds like an angry badger and you can't understand a word anyone is saying anyway so why bother? There's a time and a place for everything but death vocals are so painfully over used. They should be cliché in a few years though. Thank fuck.

i cant stand it when people say that you cant understand it. you can if youd give it like 2 seconds. granted some of it is a little incomprehensible but for the most part its completely understandable so long as ignorance doesnt get in the way.

Oh come on, I like cookie monster vocals and all but you really can't understand it half the time. Yeah if you read the lyrics while listening to it a couple times you'll be able to pick out words but just casually listening you're not gonna know what they're saying. I can't tell you how many times I listened to Dying Fetus before I had to read the lyrics to know what their croaker was saying.

Depends on the band. lots of bands i can understand fine, other bands i need to look at the lyrics.

I think it's just a matter of really tightening up your throat without quite completely closing it. The tricky part is controlling the speed and power of the air flow so you don't destroy your throat doing it. Then again, most "extreme" metal bores the piss out of me because most bands just amount to playing pretty much the same three and a half seconds of music for their entire album/set, so I wouldn't really know.
