Yeah, they are, and they're pretty good too. Probably done more overseas touring than any of the Aussie metal bands too, heh. I'm still laughing at the fact that they suported Korn in NZ, haha.

Yeah, there's lots of poking fun at Tasmanians being incest victims haha, as well as New Zealanders fucking sheep. Queenslanders are "banana-benders" and anyone south of the border to anyone else is a "mexican". Cute, aint it?

Snake Doctor is a jewel in the rough
Personally i'm not a fan of Dungeon, Alchemist and Blood Duster, but Psycroptic and Alarum are 2 of of the best bands going around, not just in this in this country but in the world, which is great because i see them both live quite frequently.

Anyway some more recommendations from a fellow Aussie:

Ruins:

Tasmanian black metal, which features Dave Haley from psycroptic on drums. Their debut Spun Forth As Dark Nets ranks up there with some of my favorite Black Metal of all time. Favorite tracks: No Trace Or Rumour and Spun Forth Dark Nets.

www.myspace.com/ruinsblackmetal

Monoliyth:

Old school death metal, heavily influenced by bands like Morbid Angel and Disincarnate, their debut should be out any day now. Best tracks: Slaughtered and Lust Till Dust.

www.myspace.com/monoliyth

Dark Earth

Melodic metal band featuring a couple of the same members as Monoliyth, these guys have a great lead guitarist and some really good songs, unfortunately their best songs aren't sampled on their my space.

www.myspace.com/darkearth

Belakor

Another melodic metal band from Melbourne, have just released their first E.P The Frail Tide which i think is available to buy or download on their my space. Best tracks: Neither Shape Nor Shadow and A Natural Apostasy.

www.myspace.com/belakor

Beyond Mortal Dreams

Brutal as fuck death metal from Adelaide. Not only do these guys have one of the most kick ass names in metal period, their track The Demon and the Tree of the Dead is one of my favourite death metal tracks.

www.myspace.com/beyondmortaldreamsdeathmetal

Mephistopheles

Tech Death from Tasmania, their debut Ascension Aborted is an impressive release coming from such young guys. I recommend the tracks: Deathbed and Temples of Devourment.

www.myspace.com/mephistophelestas

Pathogen
Melodic Death from Perth, their album Bloodline is well worth a look. Check out the tracks Identity Theft and Bleeding Eye.

www.myspace.com/pathogen

Astriaal

Last but certainly not least comes the blasting black metal assault that is Astriaal. Their 2002 debut Renascent Misanthropy should be heard by all fans of the genre, hard to pick standout tracks as the whole album is kick ass. Should have a new release coming later this year.

^^Great post! Yeah, I'm not a fan of every band I posted but I was aiming to post the more well-known/ambitions bands from the Aussie scene. I was meaning to post a lot of the ones you just did (Astriaal, Ruins, BMD) and avoid a couple (Pathogen, Belakor), heh.

There's a pre-Beyond Mortal Dreams band called Oni; they played Oriental-themed death metal, kinda like a Japanese-themed Nile or something. their Tassist/vocalist and drummer formed BMD when Oni split, and the guitarist formed Tzun Tzu, which is pretty similar to what Oni did, so you should probably check out both bands

www.myspace.com/tzuntzu

For good measure, here's a couple more bands:

The Furor
- Hyperblasting black metal from Western Australia, with a drummer/vocalist affectionately known as "boiled lolly head" haha. Stylistically, they're similar to Angelcorpse or pretty much any mid-90s Osmose black metal band .www.myspace.com/westernterror

The Amenta - Another band featuring Dave Haley, drummer from Psycroptic. They play modern, sterile black metal, along the lines of Dimmu Borgir or Zyklon or something similar. From what I'm told they signed to Nuclear Blast Europe some time ago and were supposed to be touring with Dimmu but they've had trouble relocating overseas as they can't find a replacement for Haley. I'm sure quite a few of you will dig 'em: www.myspace.com/theamenta

Stargazer - Technical black/death metal with fretless bass playing, kinda like Athiest gone eeeeeeeeevil. They've played Japan a few times but they're more of a studio project than a real band. www.myspace.com/theserpentinquisitor

More to come, no doubt. Enjoy!

from Brisbane. They are too brutal to have an album on CD, but somehow they got a myspace page.
