Who'd have thought Arch Enemy totally copped a Blue Oyster Cult riff? Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high, Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie, Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally. Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread Its branches like a Temple overhead. ~Charles Baudelaire http://www.myspace.com/impurity Brutal Skullfucking Death Metal |

Some of them I actually knew the story behind (for example, Stabbing Westward and Filter are using the same riff because the same guy introduced the riff to both of them at the same time and neither of them could blame the other band because it was the sound guy's fault). Some of them were similar in style, but were in completely different keys and were just similar riffs, but probably not copies. I didn't think the ArchEnemy song was a ripoff of Hangar 18, but it was similar. The Metallica/Audioslave one was almost exactly the same. Very entertaining stuff, though. ![]() Quote:

Crazy Town) And I thought this one was the funniest (each of these 3 riffs is the same ): YTMND - Riff Rip-Offs Vol 6 (Venom v Mercyful Fate v Iron Maiden) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Listening to the stuff, it did sound like COB completely copied Pantera with "Punch Me I Bleed" but I didn't really think it sounded like they copied Carcass (even though Alexi's vocals seem to be pretty influenced by Jeff Walker's vocals in Carcass as well as all of black metal vocals). There is one song I wrote for my band that they could probably put on there and say "Hey, look, a rip off of Metallica" and whip out something, just because the first 3 notes are the same (and every note after that is different). If you listen to the song, it sounds nothing like Metallica, but if you put just the first 5 seconds of those parts side by side, someone might say "hey! The first few notes are the same!" In music, especially in the same kind of music, you'll find lots of similar songs that are not even ripping each other off. "Basketcase" by Green Day, "What's My Age Again" by Blink 182, and "Good" by Better Than Ezra all use the exact same chords. "Glycerine" by Bush also uses the exact same chord progression (by intervals) but one step lower. I don't think any of them were copying each other or ripping each other off. ![]() |
