As a side note, as soon as this video came on, I thought "Holy fuck, he smokes", and if you scroll down to the first youtube comment, I'm not alone in being suprised by that. Zakk's voice on EoT = untouchable.

Sadly, there's no version of ATIB on Youtube with Criss actually playing the solo (or even a studio cut that I could find), but I defy anyone else to name someone that has even close to the same tone/style/feel that Oliva had.

You should hear the Live in Japan CD, he butchers all of Criss' solos.

Yeah I have it. :\ Alex rips, no doubt, but it's like he didn't even try/bother to learn the solos that Criss wrote FOR the songs. He just shreds in sort-of-the-same-key, and for a guitarist of his caliber, it's really disappointing. Fuck, *I* play a better version of the ATIB solo than he does there.

With all due respect to Alex, no one can play like Chris Olivia. He was totally unique, always on the edge of losing control, and one tasty bastard.

Agreed, but if I'm playing for Ozzy and covering Flying High Again, I try and play Randy's solo. I don't just rip my_favorite_arpeggio_002 in key.

Oliva was one of a kind, you could always tell it was him from the first notes of a song... his playin was so unique

Alex himself says he had to do his own thing, since he couldn't do the originals justice. He was in a bad situation - I wouldn't want that gig...

All right, Chris Caffery ripped Alex for this very thing and I'll defend one of my idols here. Alex never does solos note for note, which he does as respect for the original composer contrary to what others think. He's said this on several occasions, and Caffery slammed him after the fact. Alex is one the the most humble and respectful musicians I've ever met, and I'm absolutely sure he idolized Criss as much as we do. <rant off>
