Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus/Solo/Chorus is the standard. It's what you do in the confines of that standard that define who you are. For me, for example, I like to make every verse different, and every chorus building. Sometimes we'll throw in a bridge or a breakdown, but all songs, even longer ones, still anchor themselves around a chorus.

for me, whether it's Enter Sandman or A Change Of Seasons, it comes down to a feel. if i may, here's a little advice from Ella Fitzgerald:

Yeah, when I read Hatebreeder say that about the new FF stuff I knew he wasn't referring per se to song writing structure as much as that's exactly what the songs were. No solos, no bridge, no other filler parts, etc.
