I trust him. I know it won't be disappointing. Every part Lopez wrote was co-written with Ackerfelt. And the albums written without Lopez were masterpieces as well.

I'd put him up there with Mark Zonder. I'm sure a little will be lost (or changed, as I'm an optimist with this sort of thing) but I wouldn't expect it to be all that dramatic. As long as there is Mikael, there is Opeth.
Yeah, I have the Lamentations DVD and the DVD that came with Ghost Reveries, showing them in studio, and Mikael almost always has everything written and demoed before they even get into the studio. He uses a drum machine, so the drummer has a good idea of the feel he's going for at the very least, but Lopez always took it to a new level from Mikael's version. And both guitarists pretty much wrote their solos as they recorded them. They'd sit down with the song and come up with ideas and piece together a final version, then record that.

Kamin is on a distinguished road
I think they'll be fine. It was always Mikael's direction that really gives Opeth their sound, at least for me. And as far as the new drummer goes, I would think he has played enough of their music to know how to complement Mikael's writing. No worries here, although I did enjoy Peter's solos a lot.

Noooo, I love Opeth and if they suck now I will hate them forever!

This is really sad news. At least Peter is doing what he feels is right. I'm very curious to hear how the new guitarist will effect their sound. Doesn't seem like the right fit, but we'll see.

Damn and i Thought that they were on their way to a new album soon... shit... I dont know but i didnt Enjoy Ghost Reveries as much as i did blackwater park and My Arms your Hearse.. it sounded almost like another band ..(maybe cos of new drummer and Wilson not producing it ) but i digged it... we'll see what a new guitarist will do for Opeth

All this talk about Akerfeldt; although he may write alot of the music, he can't do it without his band members.
