Paco De Lucia/John Mclaughlin/Al Di Meola - Friday Night In San Francisco
Not only does this album feature five kick-arse songs, three phenomenal players and more ripping acoustic playing than you can shake a stick at, but the entire thing was performed live, so you know these three guys were really in sync. There are plenty of guitar-centric albums that people should own (Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar, Perpetual Burn, Passion And Warfare, you know the drill...) and this album is definitely one of them.

This album blew my mind when I first heard it (at age 14-15 IIRC). All three of them are hugely inspiring players.

On a side-note, I just got McLaughlin's 'Industrial Zen' album, and that's a great one too!

It took me ages to "get" Mclaughlin, for the longest time I knew him through Mahavishnu and didn't like that he'd use all his harmonic knowledge to play blues licks through fusion tunes, but I eventually heard Shakti and the rest was history...

how's this compare to "Passion, Grace, and Fire" ? cuz i've got that album and i'd give it like 4 stars in actually being listenable as a normal music experience. I'm not big on "guitar albums"

I prefer it to "Passion, Grace and Fire". The whole live thing gives it more balls. For me the worst part of the album is this part where they go into a Pink Panther/blues section which the crowd goes nuts for. It makes me cringe
