Hey Eric, just checked out the entire Art Of Life live videos (4 parts actually)... man, it sounds just as good as the album version!!! Both Pata and Hide were awesome, but don't you think they both played like robot? They hardly frigging move during the whole song!!!

BTW, for those who are interested in this awesome Japanese masterpiece, part 4 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZWLW...elated&search=

Thick as a Brick -- Jethro Tull

To really answer "favorite", I'll have to dig around. There's a few that come to mind, but I think they may only be 15 - 18 mins.

But, to add to the list: Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick". Technically, the whole album is one song.

Every track from Yes' "Tales from Topographic Oceans" is in that range, but they might be 90 secs or so short.

OK, I just created a smart playlist in iTunes. Now I need to listen to:
  • 2112 - Rush 2112 - 20:37
  • A Change Of Seasons (medley) - Dream Theater A Change Of Seasons - 22:43
  • Sonata in Bb, K.454 - Bowdoin College Bowdoin Music - 20:47
  • Invito Al Cielo - Sonic Youth (w/ Jim O’Rourke) Invito Al Cielo - 20:54
  • Radio-Amatoroj - Sonic Youth (w/ Jim O’Rourke) Invito Al Cielo - 29:21
  • Cortez The Killer - Built To Spill LIVE - 20:30
  • Lizard - King Crimson Lizard - 23:22
  • Bogus Pomp - Frank Zappa London Symphony Orchestra Vol. I & II (Disc 2) - 24:34
  • Echoes - Pink Floyd Meddle - 23:29
  • Spooky Scary Sounds - Martha Stewart Living Spooky Scary Sounds For Halloween - 40:41
  • The Revealing Science Of God (Dance Of The Dawn) - Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans (Disc 1) - 20:25
  • The Remembering (High The Memory) - Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans (Disc 1 - 20:36
  • Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil) - Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans (Disc 2) - 21:33
  • Tarkus - Emerson, Lake & Palmer Tarkus - 20:42
  • Thick As A Brick (Side 1) - Jethro Tull Thick As A Brick - 22:37
  • Thick As A Brick (Side 2) - Jethro Tull Thick As A Brick - 21:05

Before "voting". I think I will skip the Halloween CD, though

Ray

How long is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond?" Also, can I just count all of "Wish You Were Here" as one album?

I was gonna say X Japan - Art of life.. hide is my 3rd biggest influence behind Marty and TMac..

Octavarium is really cool, but X's Art Of Life is just insane.. those solos are godlike..

I could say "Damn, Hide played like a machine! " Because I thought both Hide and Pata sounded awesome. So, if you mean by "they both played like robots" "they played incredibly well with absolutely no mistakes," then I agree with you. If you mean, "without emotion" or something like that, I disagree. I absolutely love the first guitar part right after the piano part at the beginning of the song ends. That smooth warm kinda slow tone oozing with emotion.

Anyway, "Art Of Life" is one of my favorite X Japan songs and I thought the live performance was great, but I can see why they only played it live once (it's 30 friggin' minutes long!).

I would have to say, A Change Of Seasons is my favorite over 20 minutes.

It's not one giant song, it's a rock opera. Just because they all have the same theme doesn't make them one song. However, some of the songs on there could be considered one song.

SDoIT is different though, it's a bunch of different movements, and it even has a reprise so it could either be a giant song, or a rock opera too. I consider one giant song though.

Scenes though, it says on the back of the disc that it's 2 acts... so if nothing else, its two 30-35-ish minute long songs (or something)

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

It's two acts, so that further proves it's a rock opera. Plays and operas are commonly divided like that.

Honestly, it doesn't matter, that's just what I think.
