Hes not a bad singer, its just that Jim Matheos cant write lyrics and melodies like arch could. Thusly, it isnt fates warning ;p

I never really got into John Arch era Fates.
Kind of a bummer that Mark Zonder isn't with them anymore.

Mine was with "The Apparition" off of Spectre Within. And then Awaken The Guardian. I was like "Nothing else they've ever done competes with this" .

Fates with Ray Alder =

I love those guys, and I've played two shows with them. Truly a fun band to play with and a great group of guys, especially Ray and Joey Vera the bassist.

For anyone who doesn't like Ray, damn you all

His vocals are masterful and a huge step up from John Arch. I honestly think Arch was all over the place and Alder is very smooth. Alder is more in the frame of a Geoff Tate type of vocalist, and his vocals all over the Parallels, Inside Out, and A Pleasant Shade of Gray albums just fucking own.

Anyone who doesn't like the song "Monument" doesn't deserve to listen to prog

Fates Warning, Queensryche, Dream Theater.... best prog bands ever IMO.
