![]() ![]() ![]() | GODDAMN, what in the blue hell was I thinking??? ok, this thread is pretty much pointless lol I've gone through the weird/polyrythmic/polymetric/odd time signature stuff I've been writing in GuitarPro5 and BLOODDY HELL, I've written a few pretty damn fucked up riffs there ![]() with a few of them I just cant seem to kill my brain enough to play them along to the tab has something like this happend to you before? EDIT: I'd love to just record some of that stuff, but I probably would get really pissed off somewhere in the process of laying down the tracks ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That's why Zappa eventually had Via start playing guitar for in the band -- Zappa could come up with bits he couldn't play. Believe it or not, Via was hired as a transcriptionist and for a while did little more than to take a stack of daily tapes home at the end of the day and transcribe them overnight. When Via actually did start playing what Frank couldn't, the credits listed Via as playing "Stunt Guitar". |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Vai is a good example of that kind of stuff. For me, I'm just not really interested in polyrhythms. I like to listen to Bulb/Periphery's stuff, but I'd never write anything like that myself. Not so much that I can't, but that I just don't. If you heard my current band's entire catalogue, you'd see how a polyrhythmic song wouldn't fit at all in my/our style. I have had several times where I've written a riff in 6/4 or 7/4 or some time signature like that without realizing it at the time I made the song, then when I tried to make a sample version of it for the other guitarist using my GNX3000's drums, I realize that my riffs don't fit in 4/4 time. But, since there aren't any 6/4 or 7/4 drum beats in my GNX (except maybe in the progressive section), I pick a 4/4 drumbeat I like and rewrite the riff by adding parts and removing parts to make it work in 4/4. I normally write all my songs in 4/4, but when I do write one in a different time signature, I usually end up re-writing it into 4/4. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | right, mainly but thats not the only issue here Naren: it wouldnt fit with my bands stuff either. and most of the other stuff I write wouldnt fit, too. thats why I have my solo-project and I have that idea in my head about starting another solo-project for all the experimental and poly-stuff SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many ideas, but soooooooo little time (plus I'm too fucking lazy ) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As long as you don't start writing in time signatures like e/pi, then you're fine. If you want to talk about bizarre polyrhythms and stuff, you've GOT to listen to Conlon Nancarrow's studies for the player piano. Insane, and... insane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conlon_Nancarrow Check out the sound samples at the bottom. |
